scenic
Several holes run along the Atlantic Ocean giving quite a view. The cart paths wind through the trees between holes. The course was challenging with the tightness of the fairways. The grasses were dry with being winter conditions, but the greens ran true.
Average at Best
The course was not in good shape compared to other courses in the area. The greens have too much undulation for the speed of the greens. Hit several shots on the green to find there final resting spot off the green. Finding the Clubhouse wasn't easy. Residents were walking the golf course for exercise and little worry as to the golf that was being played. I don't believe I will be going back anytime soon.
It's a fun course!
This was my first time playing this course. Unfortunately, the fairways and the tee boxes were not in the best shape. The greens rolled pretty good though. Other than the mediocre Conditions, (which will hopefully improve in the spring/summer) the layout of this course is unbelievable. There are 5 holes that are literally on the ocean. There are some amazing views. I would love to come back and play this course in the upcoming months after it's conditions improve. It is definitely a fun course!
Nice view
Started had me paired but then sent out as single 2 groups in front had eight riding and 6 playing as 1 group making for very !!!! Long round greens poor condition fairway alright finished round went for a drink but was told bar close at 5 due to outside party ? Poor experience would not recommend or play again
Beautiful scenery ugly golf course
If my intention this day was to sightsee or birdwatch I couldn't have made a better choice; but for golfing this was a wasted day. The greens that were on the holes that fronted the ocean were simply unputterable. Whether this was the result of weather issues or poor greens keeping I can't say. Additionally several inward holes had little or no grass in the fairway. The back tee on#17 had tree overhanging which made tee unplayable. The "sister" course Oak Marsh was much better in terms of playability.
Poor conditions
The greens were horrible. The tee boxes looked more like an uneven mound. There were a few holes by the ocean but they looked like they were stuffed together to allow more holes to be built there. Won't play this course again.
Omni Ocean Links
Played the Ocean Links course in Amelia Island on 1/26/2013. The pace of play was excellent, not a very busy day for them. The course itself offers great scenery but the conditions were dismal. Fairways are bare and brown, greens were sandy and seemed like they were painted green. Not worth the trip up to Amelia from Jacksonville w/ the conditions as they were.
Great Course!
A fantastic golf course with unmatched ocean views. All players in my group rated this as on of their best golfing days. Staff was superb and the layout was both interesting and challenging but very playable, Intend to return many times.
unbelievable setting!! challenging greens.
very scenic course. tee boxes in need of repair, fairways need divot repair-- other than that a very beautiful lay-out, setting and despite all my 3 putts, I enjoyed the greens-gave me more respect for the greens the pros putt on. most of the maintenance issues are surely related to it being off season. over all a magnificent course.
Course is challenging and ocean views are exceptional.
Course was fun to play...played twice while staying at Amelia Island Plantation. Course is a dichotomy...5 or 6 holes are directly on the ocean, very well maintained, challenging, and absolutely beautiful. Remaining holes are average in both challenge and in maintenance. Frankly, the ocean holes make it all worthwhile. Also, finishing hole is a boring par 3...seems like they would try for a better finishing.
Staff at pro shop was friendly, but outside staff was below norm for a high quality resort. Playing time for both days was very good as we finished in about 3 and 3/4 hours.
Would definitely play it again.
Really fun holes on the ocean.
Just a really fun course to play. The holes on the ocean made it that much better.
The views from the course were amazing!
The day we played was cold and very windy, but enjoyed playing. Pace of play was a bit slow due to the holiday weekend.
slow greens
course condition was okay at best, greens were very slow and not consistent from hole to hole
the course has some nice views and some great short holes
the course could be maintained a little bit better and the staff could be more informative to someone who has not played the course before. Pace of play was great and it was an enjoyable day overall. Will play again in the spring.
Ocean holes very impressive - good condition
Due to GolfNow - cost was reasonable - would not pay full (on site resort) fee like 4th that joined us did (he paid $40 more).
Staff was cordial but not overly friendly with exception of starter who was very helpful and nice. -Due to resort infrastructure and beach front location, there were large travel distances between some holes ( a couple half mile or more).
We played on extremely windy day so moved up to short T's as on ocean holes wind blew ball sideways (30-40 yds).
If real windy - suggest you play interior (Marsh) course for easier ball control.
Beautiful and Challenging
Played as part of an annual golf weekend with the guys. This is a very nice course. I would expect greens fees close to $100, but we booked thru GolfNow.com for $57/ea. Very beautiful layout with live oaks, spanish moss, water features, birdlife and a number of holes along the beachfront. Course was in excellent condition. The Starter could not have been friendlier. A minor cold front went thru the night before we played, so it was windy. Especially on the oceanfront holes. At least a three club headwind on some holes. Not as bad for the inland holes. I hope to play it again during calmer conditions. Choose a tee that is a little shorter total yardage than you typically play. A good value at the price we paid.
BEAUTIFUL COURSE
The course was in really good condition. I wasn't able to hit balls on the range and was booted off the putting/practice green, due to "professionals" out and about. I caught an older couple, who were totally unaware of my presence behind them. I observed the driver drive the cart onto the green. No ranger around and I just went around them. Don't get me wrong, the course is awesome and difficult, if you haven't played it before. Hopefully this is just an isolated situation. Enjoy!
An excellent course; the staff not-so-much
This is a beautiful course. The highlights are the three holes along the ocean on the front nine and the one hole along the ocean on the back nine.
I will play this course again because of the superlative quality of the golf course.
Having said that, I don't find the staff in the pro shop or helping with the golf bags are very welcoming, at all. Both times we played the course over the last two weeks, their attitudes ranged from indifferent to rude. The ladies on the beverage carts were great as were both marshals we spoke with, but the golf shop/bag area personnel could use a Dale Carnegie course.
It's such a beautiful course, and so well maintained, that I will play it every time I come down to Amelia Island. Hopefully, the personnel issues will get remedied quickly.
Ocean links course was outstanding for the money
We paid $65 to play on golfnow which was an outstanding deal. The first hole has major issues with brown patches in the fairway. All the other holes were great. Tight course, very windy, small greens make a very challenging round of golf!. The course has a ton of character and was very fun. The biggest complaint was it was a 5 hour round of golf! They need a Marshall out there to move the slower groups along. Overall it was an outstanding and a memorable round. Ps... The next season of big break is currently being filmed here.
Just a few extras...
The course is beautiful, but a bit pricey. Other local courses provide on-cart GPS. The course is not marked very well and for the money, I was surprised there was no GPS on the cart. Other than that, the sights and scenes were magnificent.
