Nice layout but average shape
Have played the course several times in the past and cannot recall greens being so thinly covered with grass. Fairways in fair shape. I played on December 28th and the winter grass may have just started to come in. Great price....., only 20 bucks!!
Conditions improving
Recent Golf Now reviews for the South Course have been less than desirable but I can honestly say that the overall conditions are starting to improve....new management/care is starting to reap rewards...great experience for the money
Very poor conditions
The layout was very nice, the conditions were extremely poor. Practice green was closed. Fairways were very shaggy. Most tee boxes were bare and barely had any grass on them. And the greens were absolutely terrible...so bad they were almost un-puttable. The staff was friendly, but the good and beverage were extremely overpriced!
Mediocre Condition
A beautiful Sunday morning - minimal traffic on South Course - we were a twosome - took a long time for local foursome ahead to let us thru. Course layout was good - a bit tight with LOTS of water and wooded rough along fairways. Basic proshop - no dining. No cart person. Nice area with expensive appearing homes on & around course - Although a nice original layout, it is not in good shape - greeens appeared to be sprigged and very bumpy uneven growth. Did not enjoy GAS cart. Overall course did not appear manicured perhaps due to lack of funds.
There is a North Course with fancy clubhouse, upscale pro shop and likely better maintained course - but we did not play it.
getting better
this course has been struggeling with its condition but with the rye grass coming in it is getting better
not a course for slicers
Course needs a bit of maintenance but seen worse. Many hazards down right side. If you slice the ball often it could make for a long afternoon.
This course has some very challenging holes
Over all the course was in good shape, currently they were punching the greens but a month or so they should be better.
The value was great and play was at a good pace. Overall I would rate this a B+.
Pelican Bay South
I was very impressed with the course layout. The fairways were excellent. However, the greens left much to be desired. They need a lot of work. Many small areas of greens lacked grass creating a washboard effect. Otherwise, the course was challenging and fun to play. Repairing the greens will make it an excellent course to play.
paid but lost money
My friends got there early and paid in pro shop, when I got there with certificate they would not refund monies paid or give me a credit. I find this not customer friendly. If I paid through you it should have been noted paid and staffer should not have excepted there money. We are upset to say the least. So I paid for 4 and only 2 played on voucher. No thanks to management.
pellican bay south course
had course to ourselves not crowded fairways okay greens recently aerated putting was poor staff friendly would play again at that price 20 plus fees
not for the money
the course was so bad i lost 3 balls in the fairways no rain for days but course was all wet poor drainage even for the money it was horrible.
Challenging course with great value
I've played several courses in the Port Orange, Daytona Beach area. For my current level of play I find Pelican Bay South both challenging and a good value. That being said keep the ball in the fairway as both the trees and out of bounds will eat up balls. Many approach shots do require some strategy with well placed fairway bunkers and sand traps around the greens. Great staff, good fairway conditions all you need is weather and a tee time to enjoy yourself.
Bad greens
Friendly staff, challenging course but in very poor condition greens covered in sand not grass fairway grass way too long. I am a scratch golfer and lost 13 balls that shouldn't have been lost.
Played 8 holes instead of 18 Poor condition course!
The first time I played this course and it will be the last one. They should have closed the course due to the heavy rainfall. Staff was not very friendly.
Tom @ Betty Weaver
Been Playing this course every year about this time. The conditions were poor and their greens were the worse I've ever seen. The course should be closed ,
cause it needs alot of work to restore the conditions. It's a shame to see this once beautiful course in the condition it is today. I brought two new people to play with us and boy they were not happy at all.
Sincerely, Betty Weaver
bad, bad, bad
I wasn't expecting much for $10 and thats what I got; tee boxes with no grass, greens with little grass, bunkers with weeds and compacted sand and rough with too much grass because it hadnt been mowed in maybe as long as a month. If you did not hold the fairway on your drive, there was good chance you would never see that ball again because of the general conditions of the rough; palm branches everyplace and no maintenance of the "grass". All topped off by the smell of some manure based fertilizer that was everyplace. Fella at the "pro shop" was very nice and explained that they were going through an "ownership change". He was the highlight of the day. Spend some more money and play someplace else for awhile!
Good for $15.00
Its a decent layout--not real long, But you can find plenty of trouble if you dont hit it straight. The grass on the course wasnt in very good shape in all areas. Fairways were ok greens were bad. But hey--I payed 15 to ride and was done by 11:00. I would not pay any more to play this course tho
Good challenge at a fair price.
The course could be in better condition - a few of the greens require attention, although most were moderately fast and true. Otherwise a very good course for the money.
Cute comment that fairways are always wet after a rain. We come from an area where the fairways are quite sandy and they drain quickly so they don't get muddy, Some courses in Florida drain quickly too. We'll try the course again some day. maybe we'll love it.
I guess golf in Canada must be a little different than the US since all of our courses tend to be wet after it rains. ;)
