Easier of the 2 Pelican Bay course therefore more fun.
Fairways carpeted. Greens medium to fast. Carts w/ windshields & rain cover in back. Poured rain just prior to out starting & I was afraid that they would close the course but the Pro Shop Attendant, Neal, let us out in consideration of our deep desire to play the course during our vacation. We stayed in the roughs when there was no cart path & the greens drained well & good enough to putt on by 2nd hole. So a shout out to Neal, Thanx.
Good value for the money
Greens are in bad bad bad shape. We have played here before
but this time of year the greens take a beating.
Needs some TLC!
When my wife and I pulled up to the first hole we were blasted with an awful smell that lasted the whole front 9. It smelled like something had died on every hole. The course was extremely wet even though it had not rained recently. The sprinklers on the greens came on mutliple times while we were around the green and one hole was full of water to the top of the cup. The whole course was covered in clumped fertilizer. Almost all of the greens had huge sand spots on them, were very patchy, and pretty slow. The pros were that it has the bones of a potentially good course. It had a unique island par 4. It also had plenty of water to drink out on the course. The course needs some serious care before I will play it again.
Average course for a cheap round
Compared to the North Course, the South Course is not as well maintained. For the GolfNow round price, it's an average course and plays fast (if you don't get stuck behind the course manager's foursome who won't let you play through as a single). The 15th (I believe) green had more sand than playable green, which led to picking up your approach shot and moving onto the next tee. Even for a $20 round, I would not play here again.
Nice play
Well maintained course that is a compelling play great value
Nice layout with some challenging holes.
Good layout as you have to make good shot placements. Fairways were in good shape but obviously greens were in bad shape. if greens can be repaired would play there again. Need at least a putting green or chipping area put in. Used to play here years ago and course was in great condition then.
Needs attention
Was aerated and still needed water. The ground was hard and the greens were in bad shape. One was un-playable even.
Some tee boxes were not even mowed.
Just needed more attention on entire course.
Great value interesting course
Seems to have little use, but provides a good challenge with lots of water and features an island green. It was in good condition and very enjoyable.
Yarkk
No putting green and chipping green, requires lots of work ,
The greens on the course were horrible and some of them were missing grass
I like the course....a bit more care would be appropriate.
An over all nice course with is difficulties. Challenging for the intermediate....cart paths, well, need lots of tender care, some greens to. But over all, nice, we are going back!
Challenging fairways and great layout
Liked everything about the course except the greens. Poor condition and very inconsistent with speed.
If youre a poor old man
Greens were terrible, half were nothing but dirt. Ediquite of other golfers was non existent. I hate gas carts too. Played the Cypress Knoll course at Grand Club and was just as bad. Stay away from Daytona if you plan to golf. We hit south Hampton just south of Jacksonville, now thats a golf course!
Horrible greens
This past weekend I scheduled a tee time at Pelican Bay North course, a course I’ve played and enjoyed before. I walked into their pro shop to find it empty and had to search out someone to help me. I was soon surprised to find out that there was a scheduling problem and that my tee time was moved to the south course, a course that I have heard rumors about its horrible conditions, but having my back against the wall I threw on a positive attitude and uttered the phrase “How bad could it be?”, a phrase that would later haunt me. I took the short mile drive to the south course and pulled into a parking lot where a section in the front row was blocked off with a construction cone and a pile of sand. I walked in, paid for my round and ask for a bucket of range balls. The man behind the counter gave me an awkward look and said “We don’t have a driving range, only the north course has a driving range”. I laughed it off and went to the first tee. As I played the course I noticed roughs full of knee high weeds, cart paths destroyed by tree roots too rough to drive over and by far the worse greens I have ever played. Every green had a blanket of sand covering it with the thirteenth green being the worse. The Thirteenth green was more sand than grass, and had pits and ruts in it. It resembled a small scale bombing range. It took me four of the luckiest putts I have ever had to reach the flag pole which ironically had a small flag at the base that read “please fix your divots”. They would be better off putting the hole in the bunker and then at least the paying customer would maintain it for them when raking over their foot prints. For the first time, I couldn’t wait to finish the round so I could leave. It saddens me to see a course with such great potential wasted due to neglect. With some renovations and attention this could be a great course. I don’t understand how two courses with the same name can be completely different. I will not return to either course.
The course is short and tight with a lot of water. The course has been run down, and several greens had bare spots. The greens were very bumpy.
The Greens need a lot of work! The fairways are bare, and have clumps of rye, so it's hard to get a level clean lie even in the fairway. It's a nice layout, and if they fixed it up it wound be part of our regular rotation of local courses.
Worst ever played.
If I ever could get a refund this would be the place. The course is horrible. I have not played this course in over 2 years and now I know why. I had a hole in one at this course when it use to be playable 7 years ago. I will drive by the South course on my way to any other course in the area.
Greens poorly maintained
50% of the greens were in bad shape, and if it was not Florida I'd say that was ok for March. Fairways were decent but the turf quality in the fringes was lacking. I was told that there had not been much rain there in the last few months which could explain some of the shortfalls but the North course which we played the day before was in much better shape. Pelican bay North was pretty close to 5/5 stars. Although both courses the ball washers mostly were dry, or broken.
well layed out course, problems with a few greens, fairways patchy, opening hole may be toughest in area,
