Dog Track
I would call this a dog track, but that would be an insult to dog tracks everywhere. Worst course I’ve ever played in Florida. Only thing that made it worthwhile was the hot bartender.
Course should be shut down and start all over. I had a credit on my GolfNow so I didn’t have to pay $ today, but I felt I still overpaid. Avoid this course.
Great Course
Played Deer Island for the first time, and it was an incredible experience! The course was in grat condition, with well-manicured fairways and fast, true greens. The layout was both challenging and fun, with water coming into play on every hole, adding both beauty and strategy to the round. The scenic views were breathtaking, and the staff was welcoming and professional. Definitely, a course I’ll be returning to—highly recommend for any golf enthusiast!
Everything was as expected
It was very windy that day but we were prepared, had our hats and windbreakers with us and had a great day on the golf course.
The golf course was in great condition. It's not easy but not unfair either.
The staff behind the counter, who also handle the green fee, could be a bit friendlier and more attentive.
All in all, a great golf day, we will definitely be back.
Exceptionally friendly staff
The day we played it was unseasonably cool and we had all dressed in shorts, believing that our rain gear - jacket, pants and gloves- were in our golf bags. Unfortunately because we had each received new golf bags for Christmas, to our dismay none of our rain/cold weather gear was packed. It was 57 degrees and windy. The amazing Marshall noticed my discomfort on the second hole and offered to go to her car and get her rain pants for me. She returned with her rain pants and an extra sweater, thus saving the day! My brother was here for a few days so we brought him to Deer Island for two reasons: it is these snowbirds favourite Florida course and he wanted to see alligators on a course for the first time. The cold weather meant not an alligator was seen, but thanks again to the Marshall for her thoughtfulness. My husband I will be definitely be back on a warmer day!
Great course.
Really nice course. Very hard. Water on almost every hole. Great conditions.
OK
The fairways were in good shape/greens not so much .
The older guy in the clubhouse was rude and the starter must have been his brother .
Great course - worth playing for sure
We loved this course. It is in great condition with carpet fairways, greens that run true and good pace of play. The holes have stunning views and tons of water. The gators are a bonus.
Early round
We had a 7:20 tee time and looked forward to a fast round. The front nine went great but when we made the turn they let a foursome tee off on the back nine in front of us. This slowed down the pace to the point that we played through after 4 holes on the back nine.
Disappointed
We have come to the area annually and sometimes twice per year over the past 5 years or so. We've always felt this course provided really good value, even though it is an hour's drive from where we stay in Orlando. This year was different. Although most of the course is ok (average green conditions, good fairways (not great)), there is one green that is virtually unplayable and another hole where a temporary green is in play due to a new wall construction project.
We had scheduled to play the course twice over the past few days and did so. However, with present conditions, we probably wouldn't reschedule now. Hopefully, things will improve.
You need to be able to place your shots
This was a very interesting course to play albeit a little bit above my skill level. Water on most holes and hazards requires a solid ability to place your shots. If you don’t, you’ll pay for it with either a stoke lost or a ball and stroke lost!
I’d recommend it for golfers that are at or near single digit handicap
Gator Slayer
The course was excellent, the staff was excellent; however the Gators mot so much! There was a 15foot gator just off the fairway on one whole.
