The Golf Club at The Highlands

Haven’t played here in a few years. In that time they have replaced all the greens and all the bunkers. So the greens I was hearing a lot of complaints about, very hard, very fast, etc. and having played them now, I think a high handicapper wouldn’t like that kind of green. To be fair, not a single green in regulation left a mark on the green so they are indeed stiff but mostly true. We’ve had some very cold spells so they weren’t mowed and rolled when I played. Things are starting to get to dormancy here on the piedmont, so I will definitely check it out next summer.

Greens were perfect and fast. Contacted friends from out of town to let them know the fantastic conditions of the course, thus we are playing there again on Thursday! Staff was also extremely friendly...

Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in tip top shape. Tough to stop the ball on the greens with all the slope on the greens on approach shots and chips. Best to leave the ball below the hole. A bit slow with a lot of twosomes out there but a georgeos day and great scenery, always nice to be on this course.

Played on Labor Day for the first time. I was very impressed with the course conditions, especially for the money. I’m hacker, usually shooting mid-nineties or so and was a little concerned about the level of difficulty but was relieved at the course setup. It seemed relatively easy to take trouble out of play and didn’t feel like I was punished too much when I made some poor shots. Greens were in good shape, as were the traps, and the staff was super friendly. No beverage cart was available on a hot day, but other than that it was a great round. I’ll definitely be back soon.

You’ll use all the clubs in the bag. Course in great shape. Tough greens.

I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this place.

It’s a challenging course. Rolling hills, creeks, ponds, tight fairways, and elevation changes. So if your alittle off you can easily lose a lot of balls but if your hitting then good one of the most rewarding feelings hole to hole. it’s absolutely beautiful here. From tee boxes, rough, fairways, green side bunkers to greens always in shape like a tournament is about to kick off.

Greens are what I imagine pga pros are use too. So fast!

The cost is a absolute steal. And the pace is always fast.

I believe they were only private not long ago might be why I’ve never seen them that packed.

Twilight rounds are gorgeous here also.

There were too many singles and walkers showing the pace of play.

Played the blue tees, which had a lot of tee shots over brush areas and made some par 4’s very long. Overall, course was in good shape. The greens had nice grass, but were rock hard. I maybe had one ball mark to fix and hit most greens in regulation (a bunch of approach shots went off the back, too). Rest was in very good condition. Course has nice restrooms with water fountains and the staff was very friendly.

Love this course. It’s a great layout and extremely challenging. The greens were recently aerated but are almost back to peak condition. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And don’t forget to grab a beer and a bite at The Reserve Restaurant afterwards!

The Highlands has done a LOT to improve its course conditions and amenities. New Greens are great, and fast. New Bunkers are consistent and drain well. They are doing many things to make the course better all the time. The Golf Staff by far if the most professional and courteous of any staff I have met playing golf world-wide. The Reserve restaurant above the pro shop is a great place to stay and have a cold drink and great meal from a huge menu with everything from appetizers to pizza, to burgers, to full meals --- and they give nice portions. Overall, this golf venue is one of Richmond's finest and with the planned course projects it will become the #1 golf venue in course in the area.

Friendly and courteous staff. Like the USB outlets in the golf cart to keep phone charged. Course was in good condition. Greens had been recently aerated, but still in good condition. When they fully grow in and they are cut and rolled, greens should be nice and fast. There were green keepers working on one hole while I was playing but they did not interfere with my pace of play.

Love this course and the new greens are fantastic. Still a tough course to score on. I recommend playing here for sure.
