West/South at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

Nice layout but needs a lot of work
We escaped from the cold weather up North and, so, enjoyed having a sunny slightly breezy day in the 60s to play a round of golf in a nice setting. The course has many interesting holes, some with water, trees, sand traps and other challenges in just the right places. But the condition of the West and South nines that we played interferes with the game too much for us to be satisfied it’s the experience. Hardly any grass on fairways, especially in the fifty or so yards leading up to the greens, so every shot is from a very tight lie. The greens were quite bald and hard. The sand traps were very playable - very soft, brown sand. The golf carts are old gas powered ones, pretty noisy and a bit jumpy and the brake on ours didn’t engage very often. The cart paths are all torn up, making for a very bumpy ride. Hardly any grass on most tee boxes, some were just sand. But, it was a nice day to be out and few other golfers were out there, so the pace of play was fine.
Times gone by
This place would be GREAT if there was grass on more of the tee boxes and fairways. The greens were getting a little "weedy". Check out their putting green- pretty representative of the course. I've played there a dozen times and played the North course only once. Btw... been there a dozen times ONLY under $40- it's worth that, maybe worth a little less in the condition it's in.
The layout is pretty cool and it's a thinker's game- just be ready for dirt patches to cost you yardage- play your distances with only carry in mind.
This will not be the first course in the area I'll bring visitors to when showing off local golf.
I will say the staff is nice and friendly and the golfers there are super nice as well.
Average Course but has 3 Nine hole layouts
The course conditions need a lot of work. I know they are trying to address it as much as a municipal course can within the City budget. Staff is very friendly, I will continue to play there as one of my course choices.
Horrible condition!
Course is in horrific condition. No grass in the fairways. Told me juniors play free after 1, changed their mind because grandson looks older than he is. Wouldn't let us start 15 minutes early with no one on the tee box. Ended up getting off late because a 4some teed off 5 minutes before our time. No starter, no one managing slow play. I'll never be back.
Run down
Course is really run down from when we played before. Billy Casper Management had it looking great but maintenance way off since the City took it over in 2020. Tee boxes are all sand, lots of wet, soggy areas, and no rangers in sight for 5 someday slowing everyone down. Very disappointed.
3- nine hole courses
Never crowded. Can get a tee time as a walk-on. Fairways and some tee boxes could be in better shape. But I woukd recommend
Trash
This course was worth dealing with thr poor conditions when they only charged 25 bucks for a round. now its no less than 40. why would anyone pay that when they can go around the corner to amelia river for 50 and play a great course with far better amenities. this place needs to improve and charging people more aint it chief.
Great municipal course
Challenging and long from the white tees. Especially the 500+ yard par 5’s.
Great value using GolfNow specials.
worst course ever!
This is the worst course we have ever played. Nothing but mud and sand on some of the tee boxes. Fairways had a LOT of bad places that were unplayable,,, hitting off packed dirt. Often, little grass to hit off from. Trees growing out over fairways and tee boxes. Some ladies tees were in the rough. This course should not even be on your list of courses to play! I play about 4 times a week, a 7-9 handicap, and couldn't wait to get off course!
Great Value for 18 holes
FBGC is a great value for golfers looking to enjoy 18. They have three nine hole courses.
The course conditions are average and there really is no Clubhouse other than a cafe.
Not the course if you are looking for great course conditions and a 19th hole.
It is the good course for average golfers or those looking to not spend a lot to play.
Ok
Fairways are good. Greens are great. Teeboxes are mostly poor.
Affordable and fun
This local municipal golf course is fun to play with affordable pricing. If only more attention was given to the fairways, this might be a wonderful course to take friends and family.
