West/South at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

Golfer Reviews
Fernandina
Nice course in need of some work. They wer mowing today but lots of tall grass in between holes
Lack of communication
Check in this morning and was told at check in that I would have to play the 9 holes twice because of course conditions. Would not have booked this course had that been couvade to me yesterday.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for the miscommunication. We are currently renovating the course to create better conditions for our guests. Please subscribe to our emails and follow us on social media to stay up to date on all changes!
Well, at least GolfNow saved us on the greens fees.
First time I was glad a round was rained out after 11 holes. Lost more than one ball within 10-15 feet of the fairway in the very rough rough.. First three holes or so were in decent shape. From there, the rough got more overgrown, there were more bare patches in the fairway, and the tee boxes became more bare and chewed up. Greens were relatively true and the only part of the course I felt was at least consistently playable.
To be fair. the. North 9 was closed for repairs, so there is hope for the future. The course needs some TLC.

Not the Florida course I expected or hoped for.
Average course with basic layout. Needs a lot of care and money poured into it to improve it, but being owned by the city...that likely won’t happen. North 9 holes were closed for construction, but by the sounds of it their plans are to really revamp that 9.
Staff was friendly and food/drink options were plentiful and not super expansive, so that was a plus.
Would’ve liked more water or an island green or something to make you think you were playing on an island in Florida.

South Course
We have played the other courses and they were fine. South course was in poor condition.

Not worth the money
This course needs a lot of work. Loads of tee boxes were rough, parts of the fairway was like hitting out of a bunker, and different cuts of grass haven’t been cut in what seems like awhile. The greens were the only aspect that was fairly well kept. Not worth the $50.

Worst fairways on Amelia Island.
West course was in decent shape. Greens were goods. Tee boxes best I’ve seen for this course, need to be leveled though. Can’t find a flat stance in any tee box.
South course is horrible. Trees are overgrown on first hole making an almost impossible shot on what was already a tough golf hole. Fairways are either dead grass that looks like it was recently laid or dirt. Greens are nice. A lot of tee boxes are nothing but dirt as well.
Course design is fun and challenging just hard to find a lie. Playing partner constantly found a big chunk of crab grass behind his ball making it impossible to strike ball first in rough and on fairway.
Awesome place to play on vacation, great layout, great people!
Good value for the money.
I've been playing this course for years as a regular visitor to the island. The staff is friendly and courteous. The pace of play can slow from time to time but is generally pretty good because they manage the flow to the three 9 hole courses. The fairways can vary in condition but the greens are in great shape and roll fast and true. For the money especially with the afternoon and online rates it's hard to beat the value for your money!
Thank you so much for your 5-star review, Jason! We are so glad to hear you enjoy our course and wonderful staff. We look forward to having you back in the future.
The course has tremendous potential. The city/owners need to put some money into the course.

Couldn’t Play
Unfortunately we could not play as one of our guests was ill. We enjoy the course and the convenience of the Golf Now App.
Tried calling to see if we could get a credit to come back and play.
Appreciate your consideration

Problems with GolfNow
Booked course through GolfNow for 3:22 on June 9. Huge storm hit while in parking lot. Told by starter could get money back from GolfNow and directed me to web site. No human on GOLFNOW phone.
GolfNow website had no way to get credit for washed out round. Disappointed with my experience with GolfNow.
We are sorry to hear you were unable to play your round and of your experience with GolfNow. If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at info@fernandinabeachgolfclub.com.
Course not maintained very well. Fairways had patches of crabgrass and dirt. Greens were good but sand traps were not raked . Disappointing experience and not worth the money

Course with Potential
The course has a decent layout and could be a nice facility, but it has a few things working against itself. First, the layout (West Course), although relatively straight, is extremely long and narrow. It could be a fantastic challenge for those who like to push themselves. However, the fairways are covered in weeds and bare spots. I had very few decent lies in the fairway. Second (and probably most frustrating), you don't have the choice (or even knowledge) of which two of the three nines you'll be playing. We arrived an hour before our round to warm up, and it wasn't until 20 minutes before that we knew. There should be a way to reserve the pair of nines you'll play, particularly if you want to play a more challenging or relaxing 18. That situation is maddening. Lastly (and sort of a minor point), the starter leaves at 1. So, if you are told the starter will tell you which courses you will play when you check in, but your tee time is after 1:15 or so, and the starter is gone, you're left scratching your head. Fernandina Beach could be a much better course, if they spent a little time on the fairways and improved the reservation / communications situation.
