Surprised at what I saw
It has been a while since I played at this course and I was quite surprised at what they have done with this course. Greens were firm but in great shape and rolled true. Fairways for the most part were in good shape and could play the ball down without having a bad lie in the fairway. The design is not really exciting but playable and many will be suprised at how narrow some of the holes are and the water that can get come into play on many holes. I will be back and glad to see that this course was getting in better shape.
Average course
Course was average, greens are better than they have been, tee boxes and fairways still need work, a lot of families playing so pace of play was average to slow, but people were considerate and allowing us to play through. Did not have food so I can not comment on that. Overall course has been improving since Hampton started running it.
Great course, great clubhouse
The course was in excellent condition and fairly challenging. I was very impressed with the clubhouse. Excellent bar, room with pool tables, corn hole out on the deck! Great course!
Still Work to Be Done, But Getting There
This course has come a long way since its re-opening last fall. Course conditions are pretty good right now due to the good amounts of rain the area is receiving that is allowing everything to grow. Maintenance is constantly improving the course and doing a great job. Still probably a year out from conditions being where Hampton wants them, but definitely worth a play now. Keep up the great work, David and staff!
Blue sky review
This website needs to get with it, this course hasn't been called mill cove for a while now. I always have a great time when I play this course, it was Packed yesterday. Which is good to see for them, means they are doing it right. Bravo Blue Sky
Blue Sky a great place to play
the course is looking really good forget the old Mill Cove days this is now a Hampton course.the greens are as good as any in Jacksonville come out give it a try you will come back and tell your friends what a nice course it is,
Much better
They are doing a great job on refurbishing the course. I will be play there more often. Keep it up, it's looking good. I would like to walk the course, though I am not a member.
Great Improvements
The greens on this course are the best they have been in 10 years. The previous owner really let this course go, and the new ownership has worked very hard to get this course playable again, and that it is. The greens were all resurfaced and are just now starting to soften up. The fairways are improving all the time along with the tee boxes. I play on the weekdays and they have a full staff of maintenance guys working all day all over the course. It's a great layout designed by Arnold Palmer with some of the few holes in Jacksonville with elevation. The Par 5 9th hole is the Number 1 handicap and one of the more fun holes on the course with a good downhill elevation drop.
"Blue Sky Golf " is my new home- bluesky.com
This course is a wonderful layout and can be difficult if your shots stray, although the pins are very accessible from all angles. It is undergoing extensive renovation under new ownership and some ground repair that does not interfere with play. The fairways are being upgraded but in good condition and the greens are in excellent shape. Some holes have been re-oriented and my GPS gave incorrect readings. Probably because it is still recognized as Mill Cove instead of Blue Sky Golf
Getting Better
AS old mill cove this is a vast improvment still a average course but if they keep whatever they doin up this course could become something Awesome. still with that said its fun to play. only 2 green where a lil messed up but all the others where really good.
Work in progress
The changes they are attempting to make are awesome. The bar/clubhouse is nice. The bar and restaurant staff were great. The food quality and prices are good. The outside opps was great. We saw the beverage cart girl 5 times in our 18 holes which is awesome.
Now for the bad:
The changes that have been made are starting to look great. The greens are coming in nicely. The problem is there is no grass in the fairways. Too much play and years of neglect are going to be an uphill battle. This course will never be more than it is now unless they can limit the amount of play or amount of carts on the fairways.
Our pace of play on a Sunday morning was right at a 4 hours. This is awesome but allowing a 1 some to come onto the 10th after us and push us ( we had no where to go) is a golf course no no. There is no place for a 1 some in golf.
In closing this is a $15 dollar golf course with a $300 dollar course staff. They try hard but the star of the show (the course ) is bad right now. Not worth the $46 dollars I paid for 18 holes and range balls.
Good Experience!
Good Experience , however, booking it through Golfnow.com is not getting the job done. You will pay some monies on Golfnow.com but they will try and charge you full boat at the course. Apparently, as it was explained to me, their system does not connect to the Golfnow.com financial data. So, you have to tell them the rate you received and the portion you should pay at the course, otherwise, they will charge as you as a "walk up" full price on the round. It has happened to me twice, the first time I let it go and just paid, yesterday I cleared it up with the check in people. SO, I received the right rate, everything went well. Fun course, fun place to play, we will play again later this week! Bring your Golfnow.com receipt.
Bit overpriced but steady improvement
Green fees are high for the overall quality of course. Greens are very good. Mounds around greens are poor. Tees and fairways are improving but still need a lot of grass growing. Improvements are being made and money is being spent. Could become a really decent fun layout in time. Staff is excellent.
course still needs improvement
Course still needs much improvement. Most of the greens were in fairly good shape. Not worth $30 when there are other courses that are much better for the same price or less.
Course is coming along nicely
I have played this course many times since January this year. The greens are in terrific condition. the fairways and tee boxes are coming along nicely. This is a huge improvement over how it was left at the end of mill cove.
What an Improvement!
I played here once when it was Mill Cove and left a scathing review. It was terrible. I was amazed at the change since the course has been taken over and rebuilt as Blue Sky. The whole round I kept saying, "I can't believe how great this is now." A 1000% improvement in every way. Goo play it!
