Royal Oaks Golf Club
About
The brilliant Terry LaGree design harmonizes with spectacular scenery to create Royal Oaks -- a unique and picturesque course. Powder sand bunkers dot undulating fairways lined by stately oaks and shimmering water. The course, part of the Audubon system, has preserved mature trees and native vegetation, making it a sanctuary for migratory birds and an unmatched setting for your game. The 6,650-yard par 72 course features four tee boxes on every hole. The front nine is characterized by rolling fairways with up to 35-foot elevation changes, lined with tall Slash Pines and Blue Jack Oaks. The back nine features an open meadow appearance with stands of stately live oaks shading some of the greens. Generous landing areas reward well-placed shots.

Well worth the price of admission
Another reviewer on here used the term “dollar for dollar” and umm gonna steal that line because it is a great way to describe this course. This course is one of the better courses in the area right now and $10-$15 cheaper abs of this moment. I expect the fees to go up soon but Thebes course is in “very nice” shape. I am a tough critic of courses so what I say is not just hyperbole. The greens are not pristine “green” in color but they roll very nice. I say that even after 3 putting four times!!! The only criticism I have Ian the tee boxes are “rough”. They are shaggy and not very well kept but it was minimal in playability. On top of the green screen being in solid condition, the fairways, sand traps and rough are all in good shape. For those of you that have never been here I will giveback you a head start up....the driving range doesn’t exist but it is a mile or two away from the club house and a pain to go get a token at the club house and then hop back in your car to drive to the range if you want to warm up before the round. They have a VERY nice putting green next to the club house but that’s it. Also, no beverage carts but those seem to be going extinct at most courses!
Well worth the money and very much rec’d. I know we will be back plenty! Cheers to the staff as well!
Great Looking Course
Great looking course, beautiful weather. Had a great day.
Tees, greens and fairways are on par!
Always a great track. Shape is excellent! Play here often, we always come back!
In GREAT SHAPE
This was the best course I’ve played for the money. Everything from tee boxes to greens were outstanding. Best courses conditions dollar for dollar. Will definitely play again real soon.
A “Good” course
The way the reviews about this course swing from Excellent to total garbage makes me laugh. First know that I am a tough critic of golf courses and I play multiple courses a couple of times a week.
The greens here are a very solid “good”. I would say that they are the best part of the course and I think the most important. I don’t mind hitting from a thin fairway but a garbage green is no fun at all. With that said the fairways are average. I would say inconsistent at worst. Some bad spots here and there but nothing horrible. The Tee boxes were the worse part of the course. It doesn’t effect me game to tee off from a “shaggy” and unkept tee box but from a pure esthetic point of view I would say they need lots of work. As far as the traps are concern we had gotten rain the night before so they were wet and un raked but what can you do. They were void of grass or weeds. Overall at $37 “ish I would say the course is worth a visit but if I can get on Stonecreek for the same price and that course is much better all around then I would go there. I’m a fan of Royal Oaks and will be going back. BTW, staff is friendly enough but NO cart girl.

Nice course
Payed senior tees and found the course very fair.
Will play here again.
Great course
Great course.great condition. Greens and fairways super great. If u don't play this course, you're missing a treat.
A challenging course for a beginner.
The fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Great shots are rewarded.
No course maintenance
all the traps were washed out, no grass on tee boxes ,fairways in poor condition
Lack of course maintenance
There is no grass in the fairways, tee boxes are trash
Well kept
The course is in very nice condition, fairways are nice but you need to stay in them if possible, greens are in great condition and fast.
A well kept course.
From the tee boxes to the greens, this course plays well and is a joy to play. It presents a challenge for the average golfer and rewards good shots.
Hot Golf
Our round was suppose to start at 11 am, but due to the heat and lack of players we got out at 10:15 am. The course was in very good condition and the greens were in great shape. The course had cold water every few holes and you have to hydrate in these conditions. All in all a great hot golf day.
Good value
Greens were excellent. Fairways in good condition. Tee boxes were in poor shape, especially on par 3s.
Slow round rude ranger
Course of good and the lady in the pro shop was nice... That's where the good part ends. We played behind a fivesome and called the pro shop twice for slow play both times they said a Marshall was coming out. The third time he finally did he said they're playing in the allowed time... You're just playing faster. We asked him why they couldn't let us go and again he said they are playing at the pace of play. It's ettiquitte to let others go if you're playing five it's also ettiquitte for a ranger to keep pace and sissy players. Ranger was rude and even went so far as to say and I quote if you don't like it go play somewhere else.. Marion county has many other courses to choose from that are in better shape and a better value. It is clear that this is one of those snooty places that doesn't want outside play. I will be calling the pro shop to complain. AVOID AVOID AVOID this course
