Royal Oaks Golf Club
About
The brilliant Terry LaGree design harmonizes with spectacular scenery to create Royal Oaks -- a unique and picturesque course. Powder sand bunkers dot undulating fairways lined by stately oaks and shimmering water. The course, part of the Audubon system, has preserved mature trees and native vegetation, making it a sanctuary for migratory birds and an unmatched setting for your game. The 6,650-yard par 72 course features four tee boxes on every hole. The front nine is characterized by rolling fairways with up to 35-foot elevation changes, lined with tall Slash Pines and Blue Jack Oaks. The back nine features an open meadow appearance with stands of stately live oaks shading some of the greens. Generous landing areas reward well-placed shots.

Good Time
Some fairways were aerated. All greens were verticut. Person joining us was very pleasant to play with. Unfortunately, a foursome cut in front of us starting the back nine and were slow. We were not out of position. Otherwise, a enjoyable round.
What happened?
I played here for the first time 18 April, and I thought the course lived up to it's good reputation. When I played yesterday (4 weeks later), the conditions had deteriorated significantly. The quality of each Green eroded, the Tee Boxes were tore up, and the pace of play was slower then before. Almost 5 hours on a Tuesday morning/afternoon was uncalled for. 6 groups, including us, were lined up at the 3rd hole, and it never thinned out at all. I hope the course gets the attention it obviously got before, I really liked the challenge and layout. I checked 'I recommend' based on previous conditions, and with the hope that with some rain and attention, others will find it a good deal for the $ as I did back in April.
Nice course
I like the course but the greens weren't that great.
In trasition
Going from winter over seed, greens and fairways very playable. Had a wonderful day playing with 3 others.
a day at the Royal
Course conditions were good, the greens were ok but had been cut at 6 inch intervals. That impacted putting. Initial pace of play was slow due to following a larger group of ladies but things got better when they finished at the turn. Staff was nice and helped me got out a little early. This course is close to home and I play there now and again.
Good....but
Nice lay out the course is in good condition ....... however, the only drawback which will keep me from going back, there is no driving range to warm up… this is a must-have for me…
excellent golf course
very good layout, excellent greens , bunkers very good
worth the drive, pace of play was very good
One of the best courses in Ocala
Arrive before my tee time the staff was very friendly welcoming us to the golf course which is almost the first golf course to Greek me that way this course and a great lay out the greens were super and Fairways were very nice one of the best I've played around I will go back several times One advice stay out of the Sandtrap's
U gotta try it
Although it looks intimidating from each tree lined tee box the course was fun to play. there are places where u can get in trouble but there was enough spots that allowed u to scramble back into play. Would definitely play again and as a matter of fact booked another round already.
nice course
The layout was nice. The fairways were in great shape. The greens were in excellent condition. Will play this course again.
Had fun nice course. Fairways & greens in good shape.
Close to the villages.
Rough a little rough. Greens were very playable. Bunkers could use more dry sand. Late for our t-time as it looked like they sent a resident 4some out d4 us, Good carts,
Golf Course community
Had 11:07 tee time was told members had to tee off first, then some other members had to finish 1 hole so they could have lunch, teed of 40 minutes late. Had obnoxios member in front of us pace of play was ok.
GREAT VALUE
This is not our home course, but we greatly enjoy playing at Royal Oaks as it provides the golfer a wide variety of different hole layouts regarding the doglegs and sand trap placement. The course is well kept and rangers ensure play is timely and course rules are adhered to. At times, the rough can be treacherous. This course is a great value for the price.
I'm sorry that you didn't find the course in as good of condition as before. Royal Oaks, like many courses in this area, overseed for the winter months because the Bermuda grass goes dormant. We all like green playing surfaces and that is why we overseed. Every year we go through transition. Transition is when the overseed checks out and the Bermuda grass is trying to re-establish itself. That is why we drop our rates starting May 1st. Slow play is an issue everywhere on a busy day. We really strive to keep the pace of play at 4 hours for our course but some days that is a very difficult task.
