Grand Cypress Golf Club - Links Course

It's a great course, well manicured will recommend that when your in the Orlando area you play this course.

Thanks to Golf Now I got a great rate to play the New Course at Grand Cypress. I have played the other courses here and although generally in fine condition, not too different from other courses closer to home at a better price.

After reading some nice comments about the "New" course at Grand Cypress, I made the 45 minute trek to play.

As always the free valet is nice and they take care of getting you onto the golf course.

Bought a bag of balls to loosen up and headed out to the range. It's nothing special, but in fine shape. I had plenty of grass to get a feel for how my swing was to be for the day and off to the 1st tee.

I was greeted there by a very cordial man and he invited me to the tee box so he could explain the 1st hole and the layout of the course, which looked outstanding from this position.

His information, for a first timer, was helpful as he explained double greens, different color flags for front and back nines, history of a few holes, some of which are loosely based on famous British Isles courses, including the Old Course at St. Andrews. Then he disappeared and left me to it.

If I would consider a challenge, it would be the difference in length from the back to the next set of tees. It plays about 6800 from the tips, which is where I played from, but would have preferred around 6450. The 2nd set of tees only played 6100+ and I realized I would just be getting into more trouble playing the shorter course, so I stretched it out a bit and played the back tees. As it turned out, it wasn't a problem back there because the course was in such good condition that the ball rolled and the ground was hard, so it played quite a bit shorter than the 6800.

Interesting GPS system, as it gives a fly over of each hole. Not as helpful as I hoped, because it is quick and doesn't really show where to land on some of the blind shots, which I immediately found on #2 tee box!

The course was in great shape and each hole had a personality. I met a couple of nice kids from Sweden and we had a really nice round.

The fairways were well cut, kind of tight, which I like and quick. The greens weren't fast, but they played great. Take the time to read your putts because downhill and down grain gets pretty fast, pretty fast!

We got showered on, so rating the pace of play wouldn't be fair, but it appeared that on a busy day and with many non locals playing, I would think the pace could drag, so plan on 4 hrs minimum.

I could take the time to describe each hole played and all would be impressed, but instead I will just give this course a big thumb's up and end this little docudrama.

Pretty different style of play for this area as links golf doesn't really live here much, other than the International Course at Champion's Gate, so this was a really nice treat and a great day on the course.

Put this course on your "need to play" list and you won't be disappointed. Thanx Golf Now. I'll be going back soon!

Just my thoughts!

1st fairway is almost as wide as it is long. True links style fun golf in immaculate shape. Greens were aerated when we went and I've seen better jobs in that aspect but that did nothing to change my mind about this golf heaven.

Very fun course. Like St Andrews in Scotland. Unique Florida course.

We loved the course. It was beautifully landscaped and we enjoyed most of the scotish touches. The only thing we did not enjoy were the rough patches designed into the concrete on the cart paths. It made for a very rough ride.

Love this course. Well maintained, challenging and fun. When I checked in I asked if range balls were Included. Was told no because apparently golfnow users show up 4hours prior to tee time and hit them. I did not believe this and thought the statement rude. Those pesky cheap golfnow customers. Anyway he said a small bag of balls was $5 and a large bag $8, I think. I paid $5 and went to the range. No bags were available. Balls were stacked on the range for non-golfnow users I guess. Wasted $5 and glad I did not pay $8. Between travel and hotel this was not a cheap round of golf, and this guy's condescending attitude was the only blemish. Great course though.

Fun to play but too many blind shots. Hard to know exactly where to hit it. After a while this grows old.

Tees fairways were great Greens aireated 12 days prior and still very POOR Cart paths terrible.

The course condition was great as always. The greens had been punched a week before , but we were still able to putt without to much interference regarding speed. The par fives were really fun to play and offered the best chance for a birdie.

The course was in excellent condition. Yes the greens had just been aerated but wow for the rest of the course!

The attention to detail that designers did for replicating the holes of the "Old Course" is exquisite! Even the wall on the road hole and the bridge over the creek. Gorse and all!!!

Great course. It was awesome seeing a course in FL with no trees. Bunker complex on each hole was crazy. I would for sure play this course again.

The New course is an outstanding links style layout. Some of the routing of the holes is a bit confusing, but there is ample signage. This is as close as you are going to get to St Andrews without travelling to Scotland. (yes, I have played all 5 St. Andrews Courses). A stiff breeze also added to the links experience. I like this course much better than Royal Links in LV, and is a much better value.

The course was in fantastic shape. The carts included GPS. The place was literally empty this time of year and I basically had the course all to myself.

Great staff, valet parking, outstanding clubhouse with great restaurant. I highly recommend this course and will make return visits whenever I am inthe Orlando area.

If you like the aspect of the ball rolling due to underlying dunes and open space to capture the breeze then this is course for you. Nice homage to the old course

I LOVE links style courses and to me this course didn't do it for me. Course was in great shape, pro-shop staff is great and the food is fantastic but the lack of bag drop service took it down a notch. I have played the other nines a bunch of times and they are awesome but the bag drop staff is hit or miss. Also the cracked cart paths look good but they are the most annoying thing to drive on. I may have been a little harsh based on what I expect for links courses but with the expectations this course has I was disappointed.

Challenging but fair course. In great shape. Woould recommend.

only saw the cart girl once, no cooler on the cart, gps started working past the 3 third hole...

Not worth the money if you're looking for a course with average service.

Very true to a links course. Very wide open fairways, almost no trees to protect from the wind. Deep and plentiful of bunkers. Great experience and the conditions were fantastic. Not that difficult but definitely worth playing.

We were provided a cart that had no GPS while most of them did. The cart paths have the old course rocky look every 10 feet it seemed. Maybe ok for replication but it made the ride in the cart very bumpy. I think they went too far in making the cart path intentionally rugged!! They did not have golf carts back then. One more minor issue; all of the carts have this tow bar in the back which can get in the way of your golf bag. Other courses we played in the area did not have a tow bar.

A links style course that is supposed to be based upon the Old Course. However, except for the 18th fairway, it did not remind me much of same. Much too green and manicured. A bit "tricked up." Nevertheless very interesting to play. Good placement of women's tees.

What a very enjoyable round ! Actually felt I can golf . Greens wee true but challenging, not too fast . I played St Andrews Old course : weeks ago and you could see some similarities. The only down side I have felt each time playing the new course is that the cart paths are very bumpy and therefore noisy when driving past other players at times . Everything else makes a very enjoyable round and experience. We will play again
