Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

I actually birdied this short par 4 ... now my favorite hole! Photo submitted by Wally4 on 02/01/2013
Slow Play
Great course, two somes in front and in back of us slowed play down on every hole. Starte should have grouped these two somes together. Otherwise nice challenging course to play.
Pace of play
5 hours to play this course while waiting on every tee and second shots. Marshall was seen 4 -5 times, but was absolutely no help in speeding things up. Second time we saw him he blamed in on a ladies group. Third time he blamed it on a very slow group of 3.
Greens were in great shape, fairways coming in nicely after overseeding.
Good condition, horrible management
Our round took 5 and a half hours. We were backed up on each hole about 3-4 groups. It was torture. The course was in good condition, the staff was not very welcoming but atleast the weather was nice.
Painted Desert
Enjoyed the course. Slow on the front nine and then no delays on the back. Geese are a problem for some of the greens but not a major deterent. Friendly staff in the pro shop and Lisa the bartender was awesome. Will definitely play here again.
Solid Choice
A bit of a drive but a very solid choice. Fairways were in excellent shape! Greats were in good shape but somewhat slow. Sand traps are a mess - new sand needed as there are rocks and gravel in them etc, Staff very friendly and the restaurant pretty good.
Cancellation Policy Sucks
My playing partner got injured and we couldn’t make the tee time. Called early in the morning to cancel. “24 hour cancellation policy, nothing we can do, bye”. Really? Guess they don’t care about their customers.
Tee to Green…needed to be mowed
4hr50m round.
Main issue was the greens hadn’t been mowed on a Tuesday. Fairways and Tees hadn’t been mowed for several days and were not being mowed while we were playing. Bad lie in every fairway (ball nestled down in the grass).
Greens were fine but very slow for Vegas greens. IMO, more mowing and the course would have been significantly better. Maybe a Saturday round would be better.
Rate is comparable to a Nevada Resident rate at Paiute. Paiute is by far a better experience…if you can get a tee time.
The course is a great course but the pace to play needs fixing.
Painted Desert is a great course and I will be playing again, but it seemed like my group was always waiting on the group in front of us and the group behind us was on top of us.
Bare Desert more like it
The desert definitely isn’t painted, it’s there….every hole, but not sure where the desert starts/stops and unkept fairway (bare) begins. This was nothing more than a regular muni course. $85? Nah….no good. Also, the cart paths are atrocious. I thought I was on a wooden roller coaster. If you don’t have back trouble before you play this course, you will by the end.
Houses on each hole, uncut fairways. Overall, it felt like they squished a golf course within a community. Lost a lot of balls in the “fairway”. Not one memorable hole.
Staff was very helpful
Made a mistake on Golf Now and the staff was very helpful taking care of the issue
OK but far from Good
Course is lined by houses on every hole. Decently scenic but not very well maintained. Lots of bare areas, fairways and greens were muffy. Fairways still have a lot of grass shavings which really is inexcusable.
