One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Poor course conditions

Was the first time for me playing this course, I’ve always hear about it and I have great recommendations from it. Unfortunately when I get to the course the greens and fairways when in the best shape. They were poorly maintained. No gps on the cart

Great golf challenge

You must hit these smaller fairways to have any chance of putting up a low score. Some fairways are partially blind from your view from the box. Course knowledge is key. You can't miss left and right is trouble on most holes played. Be aware,, do the research. Do not bring your friend here that struggles w a Driver off the tee. This course is for advanced golfers in general. The front tees are no bargain but that is where you play if you can't break 90 every day. This course will test your Iron play as well. How about your wedge game? Yes it will. Then you have to read these tough greens to putt well. Lots of false fronts and undulations to negotiate. Good luck. I enjoyed the course on every hole. Great condition. The practice Range is not worth a mention because they hit off mats. Practice green good. Golf shop good. Staff excellent. 5 Stars.

Narrow fairways

This is an excellent challenge for advanced golfers on down. You must be accurate off the tee box or you will be in for a long tough day. It's relentless on the back 9 too. I like the design and the greens roll true. A few spots where they dug out invading grass but it's healing just fine. Bunkers are well kept. I suggest playing the tee box that represents your skill level. Be honest. Move up. Trust me. You'll enjoy the round more. The pace was not great but it was a Sunday morning. It's hot out there so find shade. Drink water. The driving Range is horrible. Mats are not going to help you. Just stretch and putt. Practice green is fine. Nice course. Great shape. Great challenge. Don't bring your buddy here that can't break 90! He will hate you afterwards .

Lightning and thunder @ course

Due to lightning and thunder right above us we are we were persuaded to wait hoping the weather will blow over. The day before we enjoyed our round and arrive an hour late they honored and never said anything they were very nice deciding to play again since we enjoyed our time there we were shocked they decided not to let us go out or give us credit and even though weather conditions we’re not safe what a shame due to management we will not be going back painted desert is the closest course to my home

Nice but not great

Always enjoy the layout. Challenging but fair. It’s a little bit scruffy. Could use some TLC.

cart path terror

The two worst things on this golf course was the cart paths they have are just a brutal beat up your clubs & your back it was cracked & busted in so many places you might as well just drive over curbs & in the desert! the other thing that was irrataing was the condition of the bunkers now those you could practically bouncce your ball on them & it come bouncing back out it looked like sand but I thought it was concrete even after raking a fresh dug up spot to hit from. Other than that the course was in good condition fairways & greens were lush & green a pleasure to hit from & land on.
