One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Needs A good Greenskeeper

I know this is a public course, and probably a lot of people play it, but they need someone who knows how to water, aerate, and simply maintain the course better than what it is. It’s a beautiful layout but the greens, fairways, and tee boxes just need work.

Nice track

Pros, Nice fairways and greens. Good price,Friendly staff. Cons, need new range balls, cart paths are pretty rough in spots. If you didn't have a sore back when you came. You will when you leave. Still a very nice course though.

Old courses, surprised to know only 3 tee boxes, no lady tees, Gold, black, Silver only, Narrow fairways, Very slow play, had to see the group on every tee box, I played with friend's couple, so two ladies, to boys. For late 50's ladies, silver tee is too long, (par 5, 470 yd, for lady). Value for money not takes complaints, but not for ladies at all, layout is not that bad, so and so, old courses. No space to practice range, few seats. One time playing at this course will be enough...

Don't recommend

My tee off time was 12:30 pm on Saturday. Waited for the cart because they were out of the cart. We got the cart at around 12:40 pm and told us to wait for 5 min to head down to the 1st tee. When we got to the 1st tee, there were 2 teams ahead of us waiting to tee off. Every hole, we had to wait for one or two teams ahead of us to tee off. It took us 3 hours to play 9 holes and we could only play 11 holes. We paid $110 each for it since we were from California. Not worth a penny to play in this unorganized golf course. Do Not Go There. You Will Waste Your Money.

Accuracy and patience

I really liked this course...at least 14 holes of it. My biggest complaint is that it took us 4 hours and 15 minutes to finish 14 holes. This was a Saturday tee time, so I calculated a 4.5 hour round. We had a 12:12 tee time. Because of a 5:30 evening reservation in downtown Las Vegas, we left the course at 4:30 pm., after finishing hole 14 to pack up our bags, and get on the road. It was getting dark, and there was no sign of the pace picking up. On the back nine, the course marshal came by and said he told the slow groups to speed up...I didn't notice any change in the pace.

The course was tight, and narrow on some holes, and challenging with over the water shots. Target golf, shot placement, and distance accuracy are all required on this course. The greens were fast and smooth, with true breaks. I really enjoyed the course,

Good course: Needs Renovation

I’ve played this course a few times and I don’t remember the outdated mess of it: the fairways and greens were very hard…lots of roll and you couldn’t stop a ball on the greens. The sand traps were never raked. Hang on tight while on cart paths: it’s like going off-roading. Paths are very rough by cracked concrete, upgrowing roots, bare spots, etc. I’m not sure even a resident’s rate (which I got with a coupon) will bring me back.

Tough course for average women

More than 5600 yards from the forward tees for my wife as a 20 handicap was a challenging day of golf, but course was enjoyable and greens in pretty good shape - medium speed. Course greeter, cart staff and restaurant staff were extremely cordial, helpful and pleasant - this made the experience that much better! Good value for the $ with a hot deal from golf now.
