Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

I actually birdied this short par 4 ... now my favorite hole! Photo submitted by Wally4 on 02/01/2013
Nice coarse
The coarse design was perfect. Had everything you wanted in hole variations. The conditions were ok. The greens were PERFECT. There were some sparse spots throughout but it was due to time of year. Overall great experience.
Painted Desert
I’ve played all around Las Vegas the last month and the greens at Painted Desert were by far the best greens in town. We paid $25 and got a beer with it, can’t ask for more than that!
Green surprise
The course is a B+ , with a so-so rating on everything but the greens which are in A+ condition!
1st timer here
I'm a Las Vegas local and this is my 1st time playing painted desert I was very impressed with the layout the greens were very fast I loved it felt like carpet the one thing I did not like and this is minor the cart paths were trashed I don't know if this I'm not used to that by playing know a lot of the local places but the cart paths could be better
Dont bother
This I can honestly say is maybe the worst course I've played in 28 years of golf. Greens were decent everything else is trash. Got a tee time for like 12 bucks there's a reason. Wouldnt play herr again if it was free.
Also the old lady in the bar with dark hair was so.....incompetent, for lack of better word. I walked in and asked is there any sandwiches and a cigar and Jack n coke. She said let me go see. After 10 minutes she walks out of kitchen and walks literally right past me and didnt say a word. Wtf happened.? Incredible. It was mind blowing to say least.
This place is just a sht hole. No disrespect in that comment it just is what it is.
Rough very rough
Rough all dirt and patchy dried out grass with a lot of cart damage. Fairways patchy in areas but playable, greens in excellent shape considering the drought stricken areas.
Always a Great Experience
Painted Desert is always a great time. The staff is friendly and helpful. I really enjoy playing here.
Good layout
Hole for hole painted is a good course they just never seem to have it in great condition while most courses in town have grass everywhere painted has a patch here and a patch there. Hate to see it in the fall. Still using mats on the range is a sign that someone doesn't know what they're doing???
Tight fairways
Good layout but grass not full ,greens are good ! Tee boxes are rough !
No frills
Had I not used a rewards coupon, I would have felt that I paid too much. Parking lot was small and I could see it filling up if they got busy, I liked that it had alot of trees to provide shade. As with most courses, no electric vehicle parking and no one staffing the bag drop. The staff was cordial but terse.
My booking did not include range balls so I wasted $10 on a large bucket only to find it was mats only. Those mats have seen some mileage. The practice green was well maintained and an accurate reflection of all 18 on the course.
After I warmed up I had to track down the starter, to get a cart. The cart had no GPS and the pro shop had no yardage book.. luckily the course was wide and flat. I didnt have any blind approach shots, and the layout is range finder friendly. The cart comes with ice, but there are signs that all food and beverage must be purchased on site.
I'm not a fan of backyard golf (playing through backyards of house-lined fairways) but this course layout was wide and flat and very forgiving if you tend to slice towards houses. Chances are you will find your ball.
The fairways and greens were well maintained, but the fairways of 9 and 18 were littered with range balls, which is infuriating if you play yellow or white balls. It wouldn't take much effort to clean those up twice a day. The bunkers need a couple more rakes.
I played by myself so there were no pace of play issues and I saw the beverage cart twice in 3.5 hours.
Overall I got what I paid for, but nothing more.
No help
Unfriendly service and no directions. Started on the back 9 , directed to a starter that didn’t exist. Had to ask for cart location and no help as to where we could go to pick up our bags from the bag drop. Signs prohibit carts in parking lot. Later we find that is not the case for locals. Don’t waste your money or time !
Poor service
Pro shop attendant was not helpful or friendly. Gave no guidance on cart management and directed me to a starter who wasn’t there. I lost a head cover on the course and when asked if anyone had turned one in was told no . Only to find out from the group behind us that in fact two were turned in. I am extremely disappointed in the staff. On a bright note the restaurant/bar was great and the servers were excellent.
Course is in great shape
Narrow fairways and not much rough before you’re in the dirt but the course conditions were excellent. Well worth the money. First time playing here but I’ll definitely be back.
Not the best value in Vegas
Not big fan of this course. Hated the idea that any shot just off the rough was in rocks and gravel. My clubs cost too much to think that I they might get scratch up on a course that I was playing for my first and only time.
Also thought the course was overpriced given its condition.. decent course layout very average condition. $95 was $30 too expensive for this golf course.
