One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Nice golf course

Hdcp. 0: The golf course was in good shape. Speed of greens were good and they were in good shape but they were very firm. Fairways over seeded and gave you decent lies. Good layout, narrow fairways and a good test of golf. Staff were very nice although the pro shop failed to tell us they were starting groups on the 10th tee and there was no starter which the shop staff didn’t seem to know either. All in all I would play again.

Painted Desert

Just a horrible experience. They did not have the correct tee time from Golf now. Luckily I had the confirmation. They did not have enough carts so we had to wait for a cart. The cart we got ran out of charge on the 3rd hole. Tried to call pro shop but went immediately to voicemail and the mail box was full. No Marshals on the course. A guy running a money raising event for the military on # 8 gave us his cart or we would not have gotten a cart after #9. Our rate included a meal but the kitchen was closed. It seemed like the entire staff was frustrated with Management. No starter at the tee box. The round took. 6 hours as the the course was over booked. The biggest issue was not being able to get a hold of anyone. What if there was a medical emergency?

This course is usually well maintained but when I played today it couldn’t have been in worse conditions. Horrible pace of play and tree limbs on the ground all over the place very disappointing

A fair challenge for any golfer. I really like that the fairways have a marker at 150 yards. It helps with my aim.

I will be back!!

Fun and challenging

We chose this course from golf now Vegas courses offered and we really enjoyed it. Really interesting layout and you were forced to manage your misses.

Not a long course and not the great big wide fairways, so you actually have to golf. We were treated great and will definitely be back again.

corrections to course review

this course was in great condition especially the greens. The greens that I had referred to that needed work was for another course that I got mixed up with this one. These greens you could hardly find a ball mark do to the great grass conditions.

course needs to improve green conditions.

The greens were marginal, due to the laziness of golfers not fixing ball marks. Some of the problem is the soil condition which allows for big deep ball marks to be made.

The paint is peeling off at this course...

This course seems to be a local hangout with little golf etiquette. Two people playing with one set of clubs and we had to wait and wait and wait. No Marshall in sight. The fairways are ok but badly maintained on either side = no second cut or rough just clay and bumps. Paid $ 75.00 for a 2pm tee time - totally overpaid. Dave in the shop was very apologetic and very polite. Too bad that his great manners didn’t match our experience.

Vegas has better courses for less money!

Nice course/ layout. The golf course is terrific and in good shape. Love it. Now, the bad part. Terrible pace of play. No Marshall’s on course. Only saw the cart team twice in five hours. On course restroom facilities locked and not available. The cart paths are so damaged and broken, they are dangerous, somebody’s gonna roll a cart and get hurt on those.

I’d play this course again

Thoroughly enjoyed this course. A good test with excellent greens. Thought the tees were a little scruffy but didn’t spoil the day.

And the best news is we started at 11.40 and went round in under 4 hours and we called someone through!

The course has some excellent par threes and good par fives.

Only issue

The cart paths are in dire need of repair. That was the only issue we had with this course.
