Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Good course, enjoyed the layout. Greens were still healing from being punched and top dressed, so still a bit bumpy. Otherwise in great shape. Beverage cart came around multiple times on both sides.

Expensive considering the sandy greens and slow play

My husband liked the course more than I did. The front 9, which we played second, is much more interesting and scenic. The back nine could be any course in north or south carolina. Fairways and trees. Lots of dog legs. So pretty average looking given the cost per round. We both struggled w putting due to the sand.

We waited on almost every shot after our first 4 holes. Didn't see a ranger on the course all day.

Driving range was closed due to previous nights rain.

Nice Course

The greens were being aerated so that was a little disappointing, but otherwise the course was in pretty good shape.

The course was not in good shape

The golf course was not in good shape they did just aerate a week ago but still it was in horrible condition almost unplayable. Did not like the layout I would choose someplace else in Hilton head, like Golden Bear, or Hilton head national

Purse had recently been aereated

The course had recently been areated and the greens top-sanded. We were made aware of this prior to play. That is why this review shows low value and course conditions. Staff and other amenities were above average.

Great track!

Been coming to HII every year for 25+ years and somehow never made it out to this gem. We got an afternoon tee time and had the place to ourselves. They've got a junior rate for under 18, which saved some cash. The layout was fantastic, some tight holes, but manageable. The greens were well protected with immaculate bunkers. Tee to green was in great shape. The ninth green is being repaired, so a temp green on that hole, but a pretty good temp green...two putt max isn't necessary, like on most temp greens. They had aerated the greens four days prior, but the greens putted very well. As you might expect, they weren't particularly fast, but they rolled pretty true. Arccos had me as +5 strokes gained on putting, if you're familiar with that stat. Range balls were included. We'll certainly be back, potentially this week.

Great day

Course was in very good shape. The layout is interesting and playable. The staff was among the most friendly I have ever encountered. One foursome was holding up pace of play, but that was the only negative. It had been years since I played Oyster Reef, but I’ll be back the next time I’m in the area.

Oyster Reef experience

Our golf outing to Oyster reef was great. The course layout was very good. Bunkers were well placed and challenging on the green approach. The starter Bill was very friendly and informative. The Lagerhead tavern was also a nice place to wrap up the day. I would highly recommend Oyster reef.
