Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Overpriced

Driving range was absolute garbage, the hitting location were so chewed up that you couldn’t find a blade of grass to hit off of…..and didn’t even have range balls for us to hit, had to wait for those. Course is just OK, way overpriced! Shouldn’t be no more than $60 to play.

Not Worth the Money

Several of the greens needed repair, the tee boxes were not well maintained and the pace of play was terrible- waited on every shot. 8 minutes between groups and little marshalling. You can find better in the Hilton Head area than this course.

Rough around the edges

I’ve played Oyster Reef several times, last in 2019. This time, a little disappointed in course and green conditions. The layout is great and challenging, but there are very few plush fairways and too many bare spots. This place could use a little TLC and return to one of the great courses on the Island

Traps challenges you

Very fair course with bunkers everywhere to make sure you carry your ball to the green and also not overcook your shots. Signature hole #6 is worth the $$$. Played with a regular Ray who was a gentleman and a great “tour” guide of this course. The only issue I had was with the Marshall who warned us to “speed up play” when no one was behind us. Otherwise front desk staff and tee time officer were superb. Bring bug spray as some sandflies do bite especially on driving range. Will definitely return.

Overpriced

I was looking forward to playing on a Hilton Head course, even tho they are much more expensive than where I normally play, when in the USA. Myrtle Beach is still my favourite.

A number of the T boxes were quite bare, and some of the greens had repair sections, for the fee being charged I would expect a better condition course.

Solid challenge

Oyster Reef is relatively wide off the tee and fairly forgiving. I believe 12 of the 14 par 4's and 5's were doglegs, most with bunkers at the corners, with various carry distances to "cut the corner." The course was damp from the night before but in good condition. I would definitely return.

Fun and fair challenge

Playing early in the season was really impressed with the conditions. A few greens had some damage but it’s the end of March and that’s fair. Staff couldn’t have been better getting everything set up and going. A very fair test of golf where really bad shots are penalized but even fair ones are in play and you can figure something out. The whole course is worth it for the sixth hole alone. Beautiful hole with some history attached to the view.
