About

Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6657 yards
Slope 134
Rating 73.3

A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.

The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.

The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Good course and pace of play

I didn’t experience all the amenities due to arriving close to tee time but the course was in good shape and pace of play was well in line with what you would want on a Monday morning. Played 18 holes in under 4 hours. The greens were aerated so they were running slow (as you would expect) but the course offered a discounted rate because of this. Overall a good course to play especially if you don’t want to spend a fortune on HH island.

Great Course

Staff was great, fairways are in very good condition as well. The greens just got aerated recently so they were very sandy but playable. I'm sure they will be in great shape soon. The course has a very nice layout with some challenging holes and a few easy ones too. I highly recommend this course and look forward to playing it again.

Course Review

I played with my brother-in-law and we really enjoyed the course. The pace of play was fine and we played as a two-some which gave us plenty of time to bond. I would have rated the course conditions a 5, however they had just aerated the greens and dressed them with sand. It did not interrupt the good time we had and we really liked the layout. I would definitely play here again! Enjoy it!

Course condition

There was no grass? I guess they don’t water. The driving range was closed.

Do go here

pace of play was ridiculously slow (5 hours+) and we skip a hole to get around some people. No course supervision to speed up play. They over booked and we started almost 15 miniutes late as well. The course was road hard, fairways burned up and layout was very basic. I would never pay the price we paid. I will never play this course again. just a terrible experience.

Not what I expected

I expected lush tee boxes, fairways, and greens…..far from that! Not worth the money

Slow play, course in terrible shape

I golf over 100 rounds a year, 10 handicap

Robber’s Row is in terrible shape. We are from Chicago and we call courses in this condition, Goat Patches.

Paired with husband and wife team and their pace of play was 5 &1/2 hours, with multiple suggestions from staff and marshals. I have no idea what to do In that situation.

Very unenjoyable.

Don’t Bother There are better courses

The course condition was blotchy with patches of dirt throughout the fairways. The rough was in no better condition. Pace of play was horrific. Tee time intervals were 8 mins apart so a slow group would instantly back up the rest of the course. The ranger was useless. I quit after 12 holes since toughing it out would end up as a 5+ hour round. Don’t bother, you can’ find better venues to play..
