Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Nice course
Slow pace of play, but otherwise a fun challenging and well maintained course. Would play again!
Nice course
Good course for the money. We we disappointed that there was no food at the turn, but otherwise it was good.
Nice Course
Enjoyed playing this course but some of the holes are a little quirky - especially the 18th.
Poor condition!!
If you like hitting off dirt, these are the fairways for you. Greens were very nice. There needs to be more attention to getting these fairways in better condition. We have been here for over a month and there is no improvement. Very disappointed. Course has a very friendly staff and a nice layout. Not worth the price. Much better conditions at other courses on the island.
I needed help booking
I spent more than an hour trying to get booked on GolfNow (it kept giving our 2 emails trouble). I went to the Robbers Row pro shop looking for help & was not treated well by the lady behind the desk - twice!
Eventually, everything worked out & we had a great round. Nice course.
The course was in as good of condition as could be expected this time of year. Greens were in really good shape and in general was fun without being too difficult for my wife . Staff was very friendly and facilities very nice. Would definitely play again.
A little better signage around the course to help the directionally challenged would be nice.
Nice course
Greens were excellent. Fairways were as good as could be expected for the season.
Lovely course
We’ve been coming to HHI for 7-8 year, and somehow we never found this course. We’ve been there twice, and plan to return. It is beautiful, interesting, challenging for an intermediate player, and well kept.
Enjoyable round
The course and experience overall was fine. We were a little surprised that the condition of the grass around the greens wasn't great. The actual greens were in good shape and challenging. A lot of dead leaves down on the course but that might have been due to a storm the night before. All in all, it was a nice day of good but nothing memorable.
Will not be back.
In a month in Hilton Head, we have played six different courses. One of them had to be the worst - Robbers Row. I've played it many times, it's a good track. The problem is the fairways, mostly bare. Which means you hit a perfect drive, and are hitting your approach off hard pan. Once you're on the greens, it's fine - they are in great shape. But if the greens fees were $10, I'd pay $100 to play elsewhere.
