Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Weather
Played in early March and the weather was good, high 70s. The off course areas were great . The grass tee driving range , practice chipping areas(2) , and also a putting green all well maintained. The course was crowded on a Sunday, but pace was good . Course covers a large area with quite the drive between holes . Being from Chicago this isn’t the case . Enjoyed the time there .
Great Day on Robbers Row
On Wed 3/8 Robbers had fast greens, firm fairways, and was in excellent condition.
This has always been a favorite of mine however the last couple seasons I felt as though the maintenance of the course was not what it once was. Yesterday was the best course conditions I’ve experienced here in a number of years. 👍👍
Slow Pace
The course needs to support their pace of play promise. A five hour round is not acceptable. How about sending a ranger out on the course to speed things up?
WEH
I was very disappointed at the conditions of the course considering the unseasonably warm spring. Tee to green the course needs “growth” and visually the greens look good but are overwatered and slow! Our place of play for the day was 4:50min which made the day a real challenge.
Glacial pace of play ruined round
Five hours on a Monday, during the shoulder season. Are you kidding me?! Waited for group in front of us on every tee. Painfully slow. Greens were in excellent shape, fairways in decent condition. Very little grass on driving range. Thank goodness we were paired up with a couple of nice guys from Brooklyn. No shortage of time to chat on every tee box. If you’re going to play here, get out early before they start squeezing the tee times together to maximize revenue.
Played Robbers Row! Terribly slow pace.
Good layout, fairly good condition, good amenities,, but the pace of play was terrible—- almost 5 hours. Never saw a ranger or anyone to encourage the pace to be picked up. The pace ruined the day.
Glacial pace of play ruined our round
Five hours on a Monday during the shoulder season. Are you kidding me ?! Greens were in great shape, and the fairways were ok. But, we had to wait on the tee behind the group in front of us on every single hole. Didn’t help that the starter hustled us out to the first tee ten minutes early so they could probably squeeze in a few more groups. If you’re going to play here, suggest you get out early to avoid the madness. Also, can someone please let the guy in the pro shop know that the Westin Resort five minutes from the golf course is a Marriott property? He refused to believe me when I asked for the resort rate. Are we having fun yet?!
Robbers Row Spring 2023
Course in very good shape, especially the greens. Rated 4 stars as some fairways were thin and some tee boxes needed work.
Pace of play was excellent.
This course in direr need of water.
Played Robber’s Row 1st of March 2023. Was very surprised and disappointed by the course conditions, extremely dry conditions for a resort course. Found the fairways cut very short with numerous bare area and very dry and hard. Areas of the rough were without grass with exposed gravel. Cart paths in need of resurfacing due to damage by tree roots. Greens in good condition as far a grass condition and roll.
Fun, fast round
Interesting layout and fun course to play. I should have played from the back tees as the blues were a little short 6300ish and there’s not a lot of danger out there. Course was in pretty good condition, the fairways are sprayed green but looked natural. Greens we’re in pretty good shape but very slow, probably to keep them healthy in these winter months. Overall, I’d recommend but likely wouldn’t go out of my way to play again
Nice day
The course is straight forward, for the most part, it's all in front of you, not bad conditions for this time of year, green in really nice shape , would play again.
Good warmup area with driving range, chipping area, sand area as well as putting green
Very nice course
Only compaint was pace of play. Extremely slow first 9 holes. Once the guilty foursome dropped after nine pace did pick up.
Comfortable course
Very nice course but some greens very challenging!!
