About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Good value
I have played this course many times. It has some challenges but not punishing. It was in good shape overall and the greens were in excellent condition.
At $50 - 60 it is a good value. Not sure I would pay $100.
The cart staff is excellent. Very helpful and friendly. I got checked in by a young man who was very friendly and efficient.
I will be back.
All in all a good value. My biggest criticism is the driving range, which is always in terrible condition. No grass to speak of. Probably due to the number of rounds and overuse.
Robbers Row
Driving range--below average . Very torn up, little grass. Poorly marked targets.
Was lightly raining when we finished but staff did not help us to our car. They could have "gone the extra mile" but did not even though there were only a few people finishing their rounds. Starter was excellent.
Fairway conditions were not great. Although it is winter, other area courses seem to have better grass coverage.
Bunkers were inconsistent. Some hard pan. Definitely NOT a course for walkers.
Good Round
Course was in very good shape given time of year and heavy rain two days before. My group moved right along and finished in just over four hours. Would play again.
Great day. Great golf.
Pace of play always important. Busy but played in 4 hours. Greens in great shape. Fairways brown but in great shape for off season - January. Great staff and atmosphere. Will be back. Civil War plaques and monuments a great tie to history. An awesome value. Practice facility has something for everyone including a practice loop.
Robber Row review
Robber Row is an excellent layout with a nice selection of challenging holes and birdie holes. Played the blue tees. Greens were perfect. Tees were good and flat for me but noticed several were lumpy for my female playing partner. Fairways were not overseeded so they were brown but playable. The course winds through the Port Royal homes and is a fun journey. I really liked the course and the practice facilities are great with three practice greens allows plenty of people to warm up without being crowded. Practice tee is large with good targets, Staff is friendly and efficient. I recommend anyone to play this course and I will return

Very enjoyable course
Lots of doglegs off of the tee. Good mix of short and long par-4’s. Fair test of golf. You need to use almost every club in your bag to score well. Good greens. Great practice area.
Excellent layout
Pace of play was excellent, just under 4 hours for a foursome. Nice layout.
