About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Fantastic
First time playing this course. Got out as a single at noon on a Sunday. William the starter was great and gave me some course history. Greens in excellent condition today. Sunny and 72! Course had some challenging holes (narrow fairways) but played pretty straightforward. A good course for players of all skill levels. Par 3’s we’re fun. Water was nicely placed and a very scenic course. I’d play again!

Very friendly and helpful staff. The course was in good condition and challenging but but overly difficult. I would recommend this course to any level of golfer.

Need a Marshall on the course
A foursome, two men and two women we’re playing as two twosomes. The men would tee off, and the women would follow when the men were 1/2 way down the fairway. Had the back nine completely backed up. Ended up finishing at dusk due to this inconsiderate, no golf etiquette group! A Marshall would have made a huge difference in this play.

Fun course
One of my favorite courses at Hilton Head. Very playable.

Greens
Greens were in poor condition. It looks like they hadn’t been cut for a few days.

Thank you for your review and rating. We did over-seed our Bermuda greens in early November. Therefore, we weren't able to mow until the over-seed matured. That said, it has matured and the greens are rolling very nicely. Hope you have a chance to play again in the coming months.

Enjoyed Robber’s Row
Great staff and clubhouse. Greens were slow and fuzzy and pace of play was slow. Other than that, interesting course layout and very enjoyable.

Nice courxe
I like this one slightly better than Barony. It has a few more dogleg rights, which fits my shape. Also, you can get a history lesson reading the markers at various tee boxes on the course.
Greens were very good, rest of the course was good for the time of year. Played with a lovely couple from Canada, who were happy to have the border open.
Weather WS great and the let the carts off the path. Only issue was very slow group in front of us. They fell over a hole behind and never caught up. No marshal or anyone to speed them up. That seems to be a persistent problem at port royal as we had the same problem when we played Barony - although on that day we had to keep the carts on the pat.
A very nice place to play which just needs some pace of play enforcement.
