About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

“A little backed up”
We checked in for our 2:04 tee time, were told they were “a little backed up”. We actually teed off at 2:35, and had a wait on nearly every teebox. Pace of play was poor, no Ranger in sight to keep things moving. Otherwise, a typical resort island course, friendly enough for beginners, and just challenging enough for the better golfer.
Nice day
Nice layout, green in good condition but very firm. Fairway very firm. Sand trap needs some care!
Poor condition
Greens were in great shape. Sand traps were hard dirt. Many better options for over $150.
Hilton Head Vacation
We had a great round of golf. The head pro Jay is your man for answers. Only issue is rental clubs are weak. Will come back.
Poor conditions and awful pace of play
The staff had no control, and made no effort to control pace of play. The starter had no idea of what pace to expect and view of expectation for total play time. After 4 + hrs we finished 12 holes and and we and the fellow playing with us, as well as the group behind us, walked off the course. The fairways turf was full of bare spots and areas and poorly maintained, greens were OK but speed irregular. Overall truly a waste of money and time
Not worth it
Greens are in great shape but the bunkers had not been attended too and were compacted and unraked. Fairway were ruin and so was around the greens
Still Winter Golf
Excellent pace for Sunday afternoon, greens were great for this time of year, fairways starting to green up but still dry and hard, ok for winter golf, would recommend to friends and would play again.
