Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Very goood condition for November golf. Greens moderate speed but rolled true.
NIce Track
Good Course..a Few Greens has some Issues..Overall Course was in very nice shape
Cupp
Nice playable course only complaint was directional markers, or lack of, to the tee boxes. Specifically, going from the clubhouse to the 10th tee.
Otherwise, the course was great.
Challenging course
Not a forgiving course. Miss hits will cost you. Lovely landscape and great staff.
Nice Layout…Playable
Nice Course..a few of Greens had some bad spots..but overall Greens were good. Course was in Nice Condition.. Look for Special when you play…I wouldn’t Pay the Rack Rate..$95-$110 to Play Here..
Good course, close to being great
Greens were in great shape, a few of them were very difficult. Fairways were mostly in good shape. If the practice range was in better shape (i.e. more grass to hit from instead of dirt) and a few of the tee boxes were in better shape, I would have rated the course conditions higher.
First time playing…
Nice track, good conditions for the time of year. Greens are quick and undulating. Would definitely play again.
Great greens and excellent conditions (-1hole)
This course was a pretty playable one for someone who gets a bit off line occasionally but hits it plenty far. The greens were excellent and a joy to putt on. The fairways were excellent and the tees were good.
1 hole was shortened considerably for construction work taking place.
The drink person came by one time and we could have used a few more visits as there was absolutely no drinking water on the course.
Overall, it was a bit less penal than many Hilton Head courses and the conditions were great. I’ll play again for sure.
Challenging track from the tips
Really good course among the island types. This course has some very good par 4's that are over 400 yds and the par 3's are challenging as well. If u are looking for an island course with some teeth and none of the fluff, this is it..just bring a few extra balls.....u might need them here!
PopekKC
Have really grown to love this course from how it use to be. The layout is creative and easy to navigate until you get to many of the greens, which are not only fast (and that’s good) but loaded with challenging undulations! It’s just a fun ride!
best condition
This course was the best conditioned golf course we played out of 5 courses. The Cupp course has always been a favorite. Can't wait till the Hill course opens. This is by far the best value for the money we played.
No water
I'm of buying $3.00 drinks at $80 golf courses. All courses should have water coolers available. It really is a safety problem.
Need water coolers
There are so many seniors that play. There should be some water coolers on the course.
