Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Long In the Wind
Challenging course from any of the tees. Country Club feel. Super staff at every interaction.. Bummer 1 of the holes was under construction & out play. But overall great value. Need to play the course a # of times to confidently play it well.
Loved the course
Loved the course! Would definitely play this course again.
Excellent early season golf
Surprised to see a relatively empty parking lot on a cool, pleasant day. Turns out that the members rarely play on a Sunday... who knew!
Got out 45 minutes early as I chose to play by myself. Course is still mostly the dormant Bermuda that is prevalent now, but quite playable. Tees, and especially bunkers and greens were in great shape. Course is a bit quirky by design but a decent GPS helpful.
Staff from front desk to starter to on-course were friendly, round in a little over 3 hours only by choice.
Great deal overall. See you next Sunday?
No bang for the buck
Course was under repair should have ben discounted.
Perfect Day for Golfing
Arrive about 45-50 minutes prior to our tee time. Pro Shop staff very courteous and helpful. Informed me of our tee time and suggested if we get to the course right away, we could tee off well ahead of schedule. Marshall/Starter was just as polite too. Played as a twosome and we were very lucky to pass a foursome on hole 2 and a threesome on hole 4. After that we never reached a group in front of us until the 18th hole. Pace of play was unbelievable at about 3 hours 10 minutes. Marshall out in the 16th fairway fixing divots, was again very pleasant as well. Course was in pretty good shape, large greens, but pin placements on a few of the holes made for some very challenging putts. Definitely return again.
Best course on the island.
Cupp is in excellent condition and is challenging but rewarding.
Mixed feelings
The greens are exceptional, fairways under repair everywhere. Many fairways spots had browned out sod.. Not worth full price in the off season look for a deal.
Robert Cupp
Course is a very fair challenge - enjoyed playing it and would play it again.
Not Great Conditions
Of the 4 courses I played last week, this was by far in the worst condition. I know it is winter, but the fairways were basically mud/dirt with some dead grass laying across it. You could see that the new grass was just starting, if you looked from a distance. There were tons of areas that had been resodded in the fall and not yet growing. It was good to see they were working on the course, but others were in much better shape.
Subjectivity
For a change, I played well. As such I loved the course.
Cupp Course
Great course. Staff was friendly. #3 was partially closed. Ruff was dormant but for February the course was in great shape.
