Pace of play
Pace of play would make a snail jealous. A 5 hour round of golf. We teed off midday on a weekday and still had to wait prior to every shot. It was several groups backed up. Doesn’t seem like much was done to correct pace of play ahead of us. I will not play here again because of this.
Felt Welcome at this Challenging Course
Had a blast playing this challenging course. This is a private club but the clubhouse staff made us feel like long-time members. They were great about providing information regarding the course in a friendly and relatable manner. Got here at the perfect time after green aerating. Greens are smooth and my buddy dropped a 90° turn 30 footer. We lost our minds. Course does has some work being done, but who doesn't? Overall, great day out.
Tried
Tried to give it another go. Challenging course yes. Because its in horrible shape and has been for years. Until it gets new owners it will never be a great course. Fairways narrow. But like playing in swamp land some days. Just poorly run operation. Plenty of better courses in Northern VA.
Bring extra golf balls
Needed a course to play and the price was right. We got what we paid for! Tee boxes were not in good shape. Hardly any grass and still wet from last weeks rain, despite 2-3 days of high winds to dry things out at other courses. Footing with spike less shoes was slippery on several tees.. Fairways are narrow and leaves everywhere. Lots of blind shots.. Greens were very bumpy. Areas around some of the greens were soggy. Bunkers were in good shape. A few could use more sand. I would only play this course again to challenge myself to play better. It was a frustrating round of golf because we had to look for our balls that got covered by leaves in the fairways. I won't recommend this course to my friends until they go back to riding in the fairways. One last thing, they should put signage on the holes that have hazards or water with suggested driving distances .
Not worth a second look
Tee boxes and greens were in very poor condition. Fairways were in good condition. The rough was generally long and thick.

Great club!
One of my favorite courses to play. I think it's great that they open their private club a few times a week. The staff is very nice and welcoming. Even though it's private you don't seem like an outsider. Members are very friendly as well. Will continue to play here once a week. My favorite course in the area. Thank you Montclair cc.
Reasonable cost - 4 hour round
Amazing changes with course conditions since my round last year. Greens and fairways are good and trees have been removed. Course still challenging with narrow fairways. Several Bunkers need sand. We will definitely play this course again.
Dramatically improve your iron play
Short course but extremely tight. The greens are coming back.
Needs work
This place needs A TON of work. Greens were rolling slow and bumpy. Trees on numerous holes need to be trimmed back to actually have a shot or be playable. The course is very tight and not great for beginners. I’m sure this course was very nice at some point in it’s life.

I had not played this course in over 2 years. But I did play on 23 October. The fairways are vastly improved. The greens have been treated and not one of them illustrated any black fungus and have improved. The tee boxes are under repair and they are adding turf for tee boxes until the the repairs are complete. The sand traps are maintained and are better the Forest Greens and that of the Gauntlet. So maybe its under new management, but the improvements are there.
