About
River Run Golf Links is a municipal course owned by the city of Bradenton. Unlike many others in the area, golfers won't have to worry about hitting homes on this non-residential course. The layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels to enjoy but it's also a fair test that is anything but boring. The two nines are referred to as the River Nine, the front, and the Pirate nine. The golf course is mostly straightforward and a pleasure to walk, although there are carts available. Ancient oak trees draped with Spanish moss provide shade and scenery throughout the course. Water has a prominent presence, coming into play on almost every hole. Some of the holes are tight and can be quite challenging but beginners can still approach River Run Golf Links with confidence.

Pretty good shape
Coarse has good drainage not wet fairways and greens good shape. Happy w the coarse over all.

Great Value for High Quality Golf Course in Peak Season
My wife and I (75 yrs) played River Run for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Friendly welcome by Pro Shop and Starter. Yamaha gas carts were in great condition. Practice putting area and hitting cage prior to first hole. The Starter tells you which cart you are playing with and which carts you are to follow. The Starter is not at the first tee but rather stationed where carts are loaded.
We teed off 10 minutes late at 12:30 p.m. as it was a busy day. It took us 4 hrs 50 minutes to play and on one hole there were 4-5 groups on that hole. No Ranger to be seen and I asked afterwards and they advised it was a very busy day and it seems they do not use a Ranger.
The course was in superb condition, tees, rough, fairway, bunkers and Green’s were a 10 for sure. There are no houses on the course and each hole is well separated from the others. The yardage markers are not easily visible as they are flat in the fairways, no stakes. The holes are colour coded by location. No GPS in carts. There are numerous ponds but they are not really in play unreasonably. There are a couple of tight driving holes off the tee.The course is very scenic with beautiful trees throughout.
I played the whites and my wife the reds as did the other couple from Switzerland. In my opinion the reds were not sufficiently far enough forward on several holes but my wife certainly enjoyed the course and we have booked additional tee times over the next few weeks while we are in Florida.I had a tough time putting and I am normally a very good putter but the quick speed and slope got the best of me on too many of the greens.
This is a Manatee County municipal course and it is certainly a high quality golf course and well run. I strongly recommend playing here for the great $$ value in peak season.

Helpful staff
My wife dropped her phone unknowingly as we left the course yesterday evening. We realized late last night and checked on its location via Find My app; and it was in the parking lot. Called the Clubhouse this morning and Reneé took the trouble to go find and retrieve the phone; above and beyond her duty! Our thanks to her and other staff.

If you want to be on a course for 5 hours, this is the one. I spoke to management and they didn’t seem to care.

Crowded Seasonal Conditions
I enjoy playing River Run during the off season. Great friendly staff & service. The greens were very good with average speed and rolling true. The course was playing difficult due to wind gusts up to 25 mph on the day I played. Pace of play wasn't great. We waited on virtually every hole due to the course being so crowded. In fairness the pace was around 4 hours and 15 minutes for 4-somes despite the wait which is to be expected for January play. The course was not in excellent shape however. The overseed was being watered throughout the course and nearly every fairway shot plugged due to the excessive watering used to establish the overseed. Many pitches and chips were off of waterlogged greenside areas. I prefer playing this nice facility in the off season.

Solid Course
Pro shop staff is not proficient in answering basic questions related to the course that a regular pro shop would have. It’s just another job for them. However the ground-crew were friendly and gave interesting history in the course. Course is a good price for the Midwest folks looking for a fun day out. Definitely not as maintained as one would like. But it is a public course. Greens move the ball like a buzzing Nokia cellphone.
Overall good value for a day on the golf course
. Stay away if you are a serious golfer.
