Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 70.4, and it has a slope rating of 123.

Unfriendly staff slow pace
Staff is unfriendly; the pace of play was extremely slow. Ranger just drives around to talk, not to help pace. I played with my wife. We got paired with another twosome by the starter. We bring our son with us, who has cp and uses a wheelchair for primary transport. He does not walk and can’t stand on his own. This was a big issue for them, and they made it very difficult for us from the attitude to making us get and pay for another cart, which slowed pace down even more because he waited until we teed off to tell us we had to get another cart. We have played multiple courses in the Jacksonville area and central Florida area and never had an issue with having to get another cart. And two, the attitude and way they went about it. The lady said there are no kids allowed. I’ve never heard this from a public course with poor course conditions and pace of play, especially when he just sits in the cart, eats his snacks, and occasionally says, “Good shot,” and plays caddy. I will definitely never play this course again and stick to the courses I play with friendly staff and don’t have an issue with my son riding with us.
Up & Coming
This old course is getting the attention it needs to become a premier course. Very challenging holes even without a lot of sand traps. For long drivers a couple of holes can lead into water, so strategic play is required. Many greens are on the small side and it has one of the longest Par 3's in the areas at 220 yds from the white tee's. Fun course to challenge yourself.
Pace of Play
Weekends are usually busy at any nice course. I would recommend getting a couple of more rangers out on the course to speed up the pace. There were two kids out playing this past Sunday and they were both hitting two balls each time they were up as if they were a foursome. I usually don’t complain but a round of golf should t have taken as long as it did. Other than that the course was great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating!
Some Sandy Tees need Improvements
Overall very good but need to improve the sandy tees. Looks like greens and fairways should improve with Spring/Summer weather upon us.
Surprised
I wrote this course of a few years ago, took a chance and booked it!! Was super surprised at all of the upgrades to the course and around the clubhouse. Great to see that there still more improvements to come. 👍👍👍👍
General manager rubbed me the wrong way.
Old rustic course. Some tee boxes need work. Some greens had bare spots. Pace of play was appropriate. I was approached by the general manager while I was warming up on the range for using some of my own balls to warm up. The last time I was there they didn’t have range balls available. He had a point to make and made it. I found his attitude off putting. Not how I would ever speak to a customer.
Great track, greens EXTREMELY FAST
Layout is challenging, course in very good condition, greens rolled true and VERY FAST, they could have been slowed up a little to make play more enjoyable.
Waste of time and money
I would normally say a bad day golfing is better than a good day at work. Not the case here. This is a pretty tough course but the conditions make it absolutely unbearable. Anyone giving positive reviews is an employee or paid. No way anyone rates this higher than 3 stars. The facilities are all demolished, and check in is a trailer. I got lost 3 or 4 times bc the course is an absolute mess with no direction. I paid 25.00 with a GolfNow deal and it wasn’t worth that. I should have just went to work. Do not waste your time!
Loved it!
Our home course, Brightwood Golf and Country Club, in Dartmouth, NS, Canada is a Do and Ross designed course and the greens are just as difficult and speedy at Hyde Park. It was a really nice day, everyone was very kind. Nice and open fairways with tough approach shots made for some fun and challenging golf.
Tough going
Rough ride, potholes on every cart path, jars your back
Don’t buy beer, turns to just froth because of how bumpy it is out there.
Starter,Ranger good guys..pro a bit aloof.
Pace of play was good this time, usually find one group can slow the whole course down.
Greens good,f/w’s decent,just a little patchy.
Becoming known for the wrong things
I used to love this course was a great value for your money, but then whoever in their maintenance department decided that this public Golf Course needed to have the most stupid non-realistic pins every single day of the week at this golf course. The person who sets the pins either does not play golf or hates all golfers. Hyde Park is becoming known for good value, but the worst pin placement in all of Jacksonville.
Avoid Hyde Park!!! Unprofessional and Rude Staff, No Pace of Play Enforcement!!
Booked a prepaid tee time for 12:57. Course has a cart policy that all carts have to be returned at 5:15pm, not posted on GolfNow, nor was it stated at check-in. It was on a note on the counter. Arrived to the golf course, no keys for carts. The most unprofessional organization that has been operating out of a small trailer for years. There is no food options before the round or after the round, just a poorly placed food truck near Hole 6. The pace was clearly busy, as you would expect on a Saturday in Florida but here is the kicker with the cart policy. We were backed up because you have a group that is at least 1 1/2 holes behind and do you think the Ranger did anything about it? Nope. Even after the Ranger came out and told us carts had to be in within 45 minutes, do you think they did anything to push that group to pick it up? Nope. a walker and two other riders caused a bunch of groups to not complete 18 holes. Why would Hyde Park allow riders to go out after noon if the Pace of Play is pushing 5 hours? Money, plain and simple. When our group was on the 18th hole, the course turned the sprinkler system on. Talk about the rudest treatment of customers. When I went into the golf shed (not going to call it a Pro Shop because this place is not worthy of the name) to address my concerns I was basically told the policy, and if I didn’t like I don’t have to play there. The employee would not provide his name, he is apparently the son of the owner and allegedly offered a refund to the group behind us. The kicker is that he allegedly told these gentlemen that they would no longer be allowed on property. One of the guys had been playing there for 40+ years. The culture of the staff is that of a carnival, not a golf shop. The “we just work here” mentality runs deep, do yourself a favor….go play Bent Creek or Eagle Landing. If you want to do 9, go to Brentwood. Whatever you do, do not give your money to Hyde Park. Donald Ross would be rolling over in his grave if he saw the way this golf course operates. Avoid at all cost, I will take my business elsewhere.
Really coming around
This course has seen some major improvements over the last year. They still have a ways to go but the potential looks very promising.
first time playing
Thoughly enjoyed course, great layout, pleasantly surprised. Ill play again.
