Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

For the Beginner
If you need a course that will allow you to have some fun without difficult conditions, Hyde Park may be for you.
Nice surroundings and nature abounds around every corner. Greens are very slow making for an easy round. I was four under after four holes. Completed the round under par. History does abound here. Enjoy yourself. Play soft golf balls, you will be happy you did.
Slow play
I’ve played Hyde park 3 times in the last 5 weeks and have not been able to finish a full 18 holes as yet due to extremely slow play of 5.5 to 6 hour rounds. This is not a good valve for my money.. The staff are rude and they, along with all the first time beginner players do not know the first rule of golf which is let faster players play through. I’m not returning to Hyde park until I hear pace of play has improved and staff are friendlier.
Best bang for the buck
The course is in great condition the best bang for the buck
Suitable for party golf
Course layout was fun but conditions rough. Fairways spotty at best and greens really slow. Practice facility abysmal with lady in the semi-amateur shop wouldn’t let me buy two bags of balls to warm up for two golfers. Then gave me a hard time about my 12 year old (plays tournament golf and played varsity HS in 6th grade) playing saying he has to be 12 to play after already being told he was 12 as if I was lying about his age. This course is doing its best to shrink the game and really off putting to junior golfers. Starter was awesome but would not return if back in the area.
Great classic course
Love this course. I am making this my home course. Donald Ross greens test me every time. Can’t wait til the new clubhouse opens.
Horrible Pace
We teed off with no one in front of us expecting a quick great round. We caught up to people on hole 3 and gradually it got worse and worse with 5 groups on one hole. Management came out and allowed us to go to hole 1 as it was late and the front 9 was wide open so we did not play the last 4 holes. It still took us 5 hours and would have been more than 6 if we finished. There were not that many cars in the parking lot. Management said that there were people ahead of us where "it was their first rodeo". I am all for beginners, but they have to be kept in line to some extent. There were people playing in clogs. We had beautiful weather and the course was in decent shape but it was ruined waiting 5 minutes or more to hit every shot.
GREAT COURSE LAYOUT
The Clubhouse is undergoing renovation and the layout looks great. Once completed it will be an excellent hole 19 hangout and hopefully the restaurant and bar will offer great food ands drinks. Can't wait to see this oldest course in Jacksonville make a complete comeback to offer great all around golfing venue.
Course is coming back
They are doing good work to bring the course back to its glory days. Sadly, until the clubhouse is open again it can’t really say it’s back.
Pace of play was atrocious. 4:46 from first ball hit to last ball 9n and we waited on every hole. We saw a marshal a couple of times but he didn’t seem to be doing anything.
17 out of 18 greens are in excellent condition
Currently the course is in great shape. The fairways are pretty good shape. Several tee boxes are in need of improvement and all but one green is in excellent condition. The 17th green has bare area in the front that will take several weeks to restore but it's not a huge factor considering where the pin can be placed around the green.
Good course for the money
Fun layout and playable. Some of the tee boxes and greens had some pretty rough spots. Paid $43 a head with a cart. For the price it's a fine course. The staff were very pleasant. The club house is being rebuilt, there are little to no facilities. The pro shop it a 10' x 20' aluminum shed. I'd play here again.
