Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

Great Golf in Jacksonville
I have played Hyde Park many times before and like the course and the staff very much. It is a great buy for the money.
Great couse just for the history involved
This is a great old Donald Ross design course to play if only to be able to say that you have done it. It is still beautiful with all the old live oaks around even though the neighborhood is probably not what it was in its prime. It is old so it is short and tight but that also means that even a high handicapper can play from the tips and know that you are playing the course just like the old greats like Snead, Hogan, and Nelson did. The clubhouse and grounds ooze history and I felt honored to be able to play it. I played around Chistmas and the fairways and tees where still in great shape. The greens were very slow and hard to read because they were leaving them cut high, understandable given it was the middle of winter. This couse is a must playif your in Jacksonville and like history at all.
Take a pass on this one
Tee boxes were mostly dirt and not level. Greens were extremely long, like putting in the fairway. It's a waste of time to try to read any break in the greens, all they do is bounce along. Course is short and not well trapped. The only thing I enjoyed was the weather and the companionship of the 3 guys i joined up with.
2nd time playing..look forward to doing it again
Played Hyde Park for 2nd time and had a nice time. Started as 3 some and had real nice player join us on 3rd hole for a competitive and challenging round. Beautiful winter day in Jacksonville. Course in good shape given the time of year and greens a bit shaggy and slow but they were true. I can see why this gets a substantial amount of play and has a bunch of excellent golfers who play out of here.
This course is very old well established course, with history.
This course was a sight for the Jacksonville Open years ago. It has the sixth hole named as Hogans Alley as Ben shot an 11 on this short par three. There is difficulty everywhere with narrow fairways and water plus sand. What I enjoy about it is there is no tee times and first come first served so, i can play anytime. The price is great and very affordable which means it gets alot of play time. I enjoy playing here quite often.
Overall good experience
Fun course, has a few tricky hole that are challenging.
Wide open course
Greens need attention. Fair ways decent for this time of year.
Value ok, course needs some work.
Course could have been better covered with grass with the favorable weather. More like a municipal type course.
Oldest course in Jacksonville
Really enjoyed playing the course. Very well maintained. Some holes very long and you have to know where to hit the ball because some large tree's may block your second shot if you are on the wrong side of the fairway. Will be back to play again.
Fairways could use a little more attention
In spite of recent severe rains, the course was mostly dry. The fairways had a few bare spots and a few weeds, but, still, they were not bad.
Very nice and convenient.
Have not played this course in years. Probably 2001 or so. Great layout. Super friendly staff and in pretty good shape. The final five holes are almost like playing in the foothills.
If you haven't played here in a while, I suggest giving it a re-visit.
Will all the newer courses in the Jacksonville area, this is truly a historic gem. Nothing fancy, just a real good time with good folks.
very good layout
well laid out course could use more on the condition to make it an excellent value. It is not in bad shape though. I enjoy playing there. Would to go more often if closer to my home.
Nice Course
A wonderful layout. Moderately challenging and fun to play. Some greens needed attention, but 've seen worse on other courses. Amenities were excellent, and staff was great. I recommend this course, and will play it again.
Good Deal!
For less than $100 my son and I played 18 holes with a cart and rental clubs. Hard to beat this price in Connecticut walking 18 with your own clubs.
Old Donald Ross design
I'm partial to this course as I grew up playing here as a kid. I love the trees everywhere. Large old oaks, not pines or palm trees like most new courses. Only course in Jacksonville with real elevation changes that make you question normal club selections.
Worst ever
Worst Staff ever, rude, vulgar, disrespectful, ridicules. 2013 and driving range does not accept CC Card. Course conditions were unacceptable for $40.00. Could only play 15 holes because ground was to soft. NEVER will me, any of my foursome or any other person we know ever play there again. Almost ruined my Fathers Day morning..
great value for a dad and his sons
monsoon as we drove up. nothing but water tee to green the first 2 holes, then just disappeared. really drains well. good greens and different from the flat courses around here. didn't like the long wait art the start. no starter to pair up the twos into fours but still got done in 4 hours. good day!!!
The course was extremely wet and probably should have not been open.
The course was in very wet condition due to 6 inches of rain the day before I played. Three holes were completely unpayable due to flooded areas. It took over 5+ hours to play the round.
surprisingly great shape for a public course!
Greens are great for a public course. Aprons and collars around greens are great too. They had a lot of recent rain so they have holes 7, 8 and 9 closed however the rest of the course is surprisingly dry. Good value.
