Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

I don't see it
I really don't see that much to like about this course. The price is higher than another course not that far away that is a much better course. I found one ball washer, empty water coolers, and
an overabundance of un-kept areas. I will go back because golfers I play with like the place. I don't see it.
fun and challenging
Course in good condition and very beautiful and scenic. Challenging and fun to play.
Course in Great Shape!!
Had a great day and my best round in months. Played with a great guy that I was paired with. Round took 3 1/2 hours, and course was in fantastic shape for this time of year. Greens true. Fairways tight. Water everywhere. A great experience for the money. I had ruled out this course after playing last year, but will definitely play again.
Fun&Cheap
We got on for a $16 Hot Deal so it was definitely worth that price. I don't think I would want to pay too much more for the course. The greens were in outstanding conditions. The fairways need a bit of up keeping. Played from the back tees and a lot of un even grounds which can be annoying. However, the course itself is definitely a fun course and promotes a good score. A lot of very straight fairways. If your driving well you should definitely be able to get on most greens in two.
OH…bring cash!!! Unless you pay online for your tee time they don't accept credit cards for the range, food, anything!
Great layout
First time playing this nostagic course. It was a windy overcast day and just getting past winter conditions entering spring. The course appeared to be past its day as this is a very old course but the nostagia of the great names in golf having played here in its heyday was a nice element. The course does not appear to drain well and the greens although looked pretty good were on the slow side. There are some pretty steep false fronts though so if theye were fast would be treacherous.
I would definitely play this course again for the $17.00 I found it for on Golfnow.
great old course
great old Donald Ross golf course that plays pretty much as it did 70 years ago.
Great value
The fairways were typical for the type of winter we've had this winter. I can't say enough about how well maintained the greens were. The best greens of any public course I have played this late in the winter..... They were green. Never saw a cart girl so bring your own snacks and drinks or get them at the clubhouse before you start. Staff was friendly. There wasn't a starter. It wasn't busy so they let us start early. Would definitely play here again.
always like to play here
not a bad course. always like to play here. good conditions.
Greens in very good condition
Overall course was in decent shape. The fairways were dry considering all the recent rain and roughs are non existent. The greens were in very good to excellent shape which made the value of the course above par! Pace was quick considering a 2pm tee time - finished under 4 hours
this course is okay
course was in good shape. couldnt complain about that
Played because of recommendation
Fairways need a lot of attention but they are playable. Greens are in good condition., true but slow. Good deal if you play in the afternoon for the very cheap price. Course is fairly flat but you can get in trouble because of the mature trees. Better keep the ball in the fairway and play the angles.
I won't play there again, but it is worth playing once for the historic reason.
slow well maintained greens
Excellent opportunity to play elevated and well maintained greens and approaches. Enjoyed the first round went back to play again later in the week and enjoyed the second time even more So I will enjoy more play here again.
Love the up and down
Nice layout, unique uphill and downhill features for n.Fla.
Hyde Park fun if you get a discount to play
It's a Donald Ross track but not in the condition Mr. Ross expected. Yet if you have played one of his courses you know it has very few straight holes. Maintenance is what it needs. It could be a real gem. Took 5 hours to play. This was the fault of the staff. No starter to ensure spacing and no ranger to keep the pace of play moving. No coolers allowed and only saw the beverage cart once on the 8th tee. Paid $19.36 on Golf Now and was worth every penny. It's a muni.
Interesting layout
Greens ran true, but slow. Could be because of over seeding.
Interesting layout. Fait to the average golfer.
Would play again.
very nice will go again
i heard horror stories about this course and i have to say that i was impressed , for $30 you can't ask for more . one advise warm up before you get there , the driving range is not in very good shape . other than that loved it
Donald Ross design
First time playing this course, and had a good time with my 2 sons. Very scorable course but at the same time plenty of trouble to get into. Generous fairways(which were pretty dormant, but to be expected), greens were a bit rough in areas but they were nice and 'green', and plenty of 'turtle back' shaped greens. Fun course and will definitely play it again
Awesome course and great price
I was there at around 1pm and the placed was packed. The staff paired people together to speed up the play which did not bother me. Greens were slow and the course was very well kept for our Jacksonville "winter". Weather was perfect until about 4pm in which it dropped 20 degrees and started a light rain. Other than the weather the experience was great and a must play for any golfer without deep pockets. Highly Recommend
Never Again
I made a GolfNow reservation for 12:42 and arrived at 12:15, only to be told it would be an hour before I could tee off. I also had to pay an extra $10 for wife to ride along with me even though we were in a threesome and she did not cause us to take an extra cart. We teed off at 1:15 and there was no starter or marshal. We finished at 6:25 for a round of over 5 hours. There were beginners that would not let anyone play through all over the course and at least half of the people, including staff, were in jeans and t-shirts. Terrible experience!!!
Classic Course
The course has a lot of history, that is it's big plus. The conditions were average, the greens a bit rough and patchy. Yes it has seen it's glory days but you can feel the presence of Hogan and Snead and the others.
