Hyde Park Golf Club

About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

Hoping it doesn’t get worse than this
Obviously the course is going through some long overdue updates, but maybe best to just shut down entirely until those things are done. We showed up right on time for our 9:03 tee time after the woman in the trailer/pro shop emphasized they “liked to run on-time.” The pair in front of us was still on the box waiting for the group in front of them to clear. The starter tried to pressure the 2 of us into joining up with the 2 in front, but we did not want that. We didn’t get to tee off until 10 minutes late, both of our drives were poor and we only made it 150 yards into the fairway. We were still walking back to the cart when the 4 some behind drove the ball right into our line of play and said nothing. Incredibly rude. Driving our cart toward the green it became evident the state of disrepair of the cart paths, and why our cart sounded like it had all of its bolts loose. It was “cart path only” this day, which was clearly impeding the pace of play, yet they still had tee times stacked 5 minutes apart. I was furious and decided to call it as no part of me wanted to be rushed on this nightmare of a course. We drove back having not even made it to the 1st hole, dropped of our cart and explained our frustration to the lady in the pro shop. She said “oh I’m sorry, this happens sometimes” before informing us there was a no refund policy. Obviously I will never come back here, but anyone considering trying this place should seriously reconsider.
Nice course no amenities
First time playing Hyde Park, nice layout, nice greens. The clubhouse is there but it’s under construction. There are no off course amenities besides a small food truck. Everyone was cool. Looking forward to returning and playing again.
Poor greens for mid summer
They had just aerated and sanded the greens very difficult to put
Always a local favorite
Appreciate the raincheck when the lightning came through.
Fun and challenging Sunday
Course was in good shape pace of play little slow but didn’t mind had nothing better to do on a Sunday except sit in Hotel will definitely try to play here again when I come back to town
Vastly improved
Hyde is coming around.. I guess you just have to trust the process. The greens are exceptional compared to what they used to be.. only complaint I have is with the geo fencing on th3 carts. You have little warning in letting you know when you've approached areas that are off limits. Turn the warning volume up.
Cool place to play
Great greens, good looking course. Fun fact Ben Hogan scored 11 on the par 3, #6.... Pace of play was a lil rough, people behind me had no patience and hit into me a few times, Other than that i like the history of it and the layout was pretty open. Would recommend
Cart Rider Fee Drawback
For being an economical option for an underserved area of Jax for golf. I really wish the $20 cart rider fee wasn’t an issue.
Donald Ross Classic
I love everything about Hyde Park. It's an awesome track.
I struggle with making putts though!
100 year old course. I've met some great folks and look forward to playing it weekly.
The Staff are all great 👍😃 ⛳
Better than expected
They have really had problems in the past. I was impressed with the condition of the greens particularly. They were in pretty food condition. I still don't think its a $43 course though.
Great Classic course
This course has a good layout, fun holes, and well-maintained for the most part.
Basically all putting surfaces are smooth.
Maybe a little pricey and at times congested, but an overall good experience for golf!
Nice Ross course - staff eh
Been playing here 5 years, seen staff come and go. Current staff needs some basic hospitality instruction.
- they hate HotDeals and I was informed I was getting off $5 cheaper. So stop offering them !
- I teed off 20 min earlier than the 2:45 deal - so ?
It’s not like I showed up for a prime 9am slot - it was 2:25 and no one waiting !
Sad because when I started golfing here they were basically begging for golfers. Course was a mess…
Nice gratitude
Very Open
Course was not in the best condition. Fairways had many rough spots and bald areas. Clubhouse is being rebuilt so not much to do at the course. Greens are recovering from being aerated I believe lots of sand on the greens. Overall for the price it was an ok course. Not much to it.
Nostalgic Course w Character
Good job by groundscrew and maintenance for keeping the course green this summer. Slower greens compared but that’s not why you play here. Love the old school feel on this Donald Ross design. A must play
Ok
Ranger Rick was a pain, we had a 4 group and a 2 group and were suppose to guess where the cart cut off. We play ready golf so no slow downs and wait for group ahead. Ranger was nice enough but actually slowed the play by lengthy conversations. He threatened us because there is a 4’ piece of wood 10’ or so away from a cart path and we were suppose to know that that was not to be used. Most asphalt paths on the rest of course were in rough shape.
Anyway just not a great experience when could have spent $250 at a different course
Put more into it
Need to put more money in the right place get away with from the GPS on the carts. You are on the cart path and the cart will shut down
