The Grand Bear Golf Course
About
Unlike some Jack Nicklaus golf courses that have earned a reputation for being among the world's most difficult, mid- and high-handicappers stand a fighting chance at the Grand Bear Golf Course. Nicklaus offers wide fairways before the sprawling woods take over on either side, most bunkers aren't horribly steep, and greens generally have room in front to run a shot up. The winding Biloxi River helps build Grand Bear to a dramatic finish. The par-3 14th hole plays through a chute of woods to a green guarded by the river below that runs along diagonally, punishing hooked shots left short. After another par 3 on the 16th that plays with the river to the left, the 17th once again plays over the river on the drive, then parallel to the hole. The 18th hole plays long and uphill back toward the clubhouse.

Great hidden gem
We travel to Florida each winter, found this in Jan. And stopped again in April. Staff is so helpful.course is in great shape both times we were there. Love it
Thanks
Very good - greens blemished a bit with sand.
Course is very fair off the tee, with some wide-ish fairways, or they give you some room in the rough.
Became a little monotonous with all the dogleg-right holes between 2 and like 12, but hey, it IS in fact a Nicklaus course, so that's what you'd expect. They did give you a couple dogleg lefts on the last 6 or 7 holes. Greens were probably good, but really hard to tell since they had a moderate amount of sand on them, which usually would speed them up to 10 or 11.
Unfortunately they were running about 8.5 or maybe 9.0 if I'm being generous, though they were fairly smooth. The greens were firm, but did hold shots from the fairway pretty well. Tees, fairway, bunkers in pretty good shape, though the sand is not very consistent throughout with some different kinds of sand.
i played the "Golden Bear" and my wife played the "Teddy Bear" tee boxes. Golden Bear was about 6750, but the fairways rolled out so it played shorter than that. Saw some baby alligators on 13 or 14 while crossing the bridge on the par3 - they were about 24-30 inches long. No other wildlife seen!
A must play if you're in the area.
Well kept, picturesque course with an interesting layout. I was surprised it wasn't busier. Layout provided some challenges without being "tricked-up". Lots of sand, or it seemed so since i found so much of it. If I'm ever in the area again, I'm definitely playing here again.
Great Course, Friendly Staff, Great Atmosphere
I was not let down by any means! This was a great course. Staff was very friendly.
Great service!
This was a nice golf course w quality greens, fairways, and tee boxes. But, what really set it apart was the service. Best I've ever been treated at a golf course. Normally, I care more about the quality of the course which was top notch as I mentioned. But his course's top feature was its customer service.
A quality round every time.
After 15 plus rounds played throughout all times of the year, this course will not disappoint. Beautiful tee boxes, fairways, and greens.
Grand Bear
Discourse has a great layout very friendly big Fairways and was in great shape. It is however, off the beaten path about 6 miles from the main road. But if you're ever in the area you should make the trip definitely good value for your money.
Grand Bear
Get place to play, get weather. Course was in Excellent shape. Price you can not beat. Can not wait to play again.
What a value!!
Hidden gem in the National Forest. Great condition for the middle of January. Friendly helpful staff. Like our group and the deer were the only ones out there! Of course sunny and 75 degree weather helps also. Overall great value.
Great Track
The course is in excellent shape and the layout is wonderful. There are no tricked up holes but the course will test your skills. For less than $50, no better deal in the area.
Great course!
Great condition - love playing it. Great value for the money!
I have played at this course every year whenever I visited area.
This is one of favor course in my list and have enjoyed everytime.
World class
The Grand Bear is absolutely a superb course. Interesting layout, some fair risk reward opportunities and flawless greens.
The course was in immaculate condition. 3.5 hours to play.
A bit out in the boondocks but worth the drive. If you are near Biloxi android don't play it u r a dumb bear.
What a Great course
Great layout, it is 18 different holes. Greens were in pretty good shape for November, as were fairways. Some of the tee boxes were lacking, but thats about it for the negative on conditions. It would help to know the course, or have a course map (I didn't) to stay out of hidden troubles found along several holes....I'll just have to play it again.....Staff was great, slow, cold day so I can't speak to pace of play as we were all alone out there. Give this course a chance, you'll be glad you did. That being said, this is probably not a good beginners course. Had one with us and they went through a LOT of sleeves...
This is one of the best courses that I have played in the Gulf Coast.
I would recommend this course to anyone who knows how to Play.Jack did a great job on this place. I will come back to play here the frist chance I get.
nice course and well maintained
