About
Rivers Edge Golf Club is a salute to Shallotte (pronounced sha-loot), a beautifully laid-out stunner along the banks of the Shallotte River and the surrounding marshes, at the northern tip of the Grand Strand. Just don't let your friends coerce you into being Macho Man and play it from the back tees if you're a mid- to high-handicapper.
The slope rating is 149 from the tips, one of the highest in the low country, and will throw 10 forced carries at you, either off the tee, to the green, or both. If you fit the above description and try it from the backs, you'll end up tired and frustrated with a scorecard either bloated or unreliable.
A description of Rivers Edge wouldn't be complete without mentioning No. 9, a 570-yard par-5. You can get in trouble if you're long off the tee, in that the second half of the fairway rolls downhill to the marsh. However, if you're short off the tee, you'll be looking at either laying up well to the right of the green, where you will still be in marsh-danger if you venture too far left or are short, or trying to carry a broad expanse of marsh to reach the green, which juts out precariously into the marsh.

Golfer Reviews
Watch out for #9
Good course but a few holes have blind tee shots that make hitting to the right spot difficult if you haven't played it before. 9 is Arnie's revenge and the hole is tough. The trick is not to worry about the tee shot. The second and third shots are the tricky ones. The green sits out on a peninsula so try to get the second shot inside 150 yards.
Rivers Edge Is Perfect
This is a challenging course with incredible views unlike any other in the Myrtle Beach and Wilmington areas. The course meanders around the Shallotte River. It also has Arnie's Revenge -- the 9th hole that Arnie designed requiring you to place three precise shots. If you double bogey this hole, don't worry. You are not alone. It will be a great discussion after the round. Check out our video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acICLK1OLqo&t=117s
A must-play while in North Myrtle Beach
I had heard about this course while being on vacation in NMB from some of the locals I was playing with. I specifically asked them for a list of courses that had a "wow factor." This course did not disappoint. There are several holes that play along and/or into the marsh where the greens are on a small peninsula surrounded by marshland. The number 9 and 18 holes are truly breathtaking. This course is for those people who like to play "target golf" even though there is something here for all handicap levels. Fairways were kept in excellent condition. There are several undulating greens which were in excellent shape. Bunkers happened to be washed out from a torrential rain earlier in the week.
Over priced for condition
Fairways and greens okay, trap and tee conditions deteriorating with each time I've played here...too bad it's a lovely challenging layout. Will wait to try again to give new management a chance to sink some money into the course
Just OK
Greens where very slow but consistent, bonkers poor and not maintained, could be from the flooding, but enough time has passed to do repairs.
Rivers Edge
This was a very nice course. We thought it was one of the nicest courses we have played. Our only issue was the pace of play. We were waiting for groups ahead of us all day. Our round took over five hours.
Great value for a nicer course
Coming off 2 hurricanes and previous day's rain, the course was very wet but still playable. Sand traps have been devastated and need to be refilled with sand. Course layout is challenging but fair with some spectacular views over the marshes and river. For the price of $56 it is a great value I would play it again.
Escaped Much of Florence - Good Shape
Considering that Hurricane Florence raked the Brunswick County coastline, this course is in remarkably good shape. Fairways and greens are in very good shape. Staff is always friendly here and accommodating. I fully expected the Shallotte River to have crushed several holes along the marsh -- didn't happen. Many Brunswick County courses were closed following the storm, River's Edge barely skipped a beat. Great time to play it now.
Rivers edge
Have played this course many times and always enjoyed the layout. The winter kill that affected other coursew was no so noticeable here course was in good condition and the greens were true. Bag drop staff always friendly and accommodating. I was a single and originally paired with a couple but before I teeed it up the starter asked if I would rather play with 2 other golfers It worked out great for me. Thanks to all the staff
A great time!
The course was in very good condition in spite of all the rain the area has had in the past few weeks. Challenging layout that penalizes the stray shot. Great variety of shots and beautiful views on nearly every hole. With so many courses to choose from in the area, I rarely play the same course twice but I may have to make an exception for River Edge!
Worth the trip
Having played here in previous years I wanted to return to play again. Of all the courses available in the area. The scenery here is not to be denied
On the upswing
There is a different momentum at Rivers Edge since my last visit. They have Greens, good fairways, and reasonable rough. The bunkers are anything BUT! They all need major work as in re-establishing drainage lines, removing the "sand" and bring local beach sand in place of what is present. They have standing water in many when it has not rained in a week and day time temps in the 90's. Hopefully the increase in play will produce funds for a total bunker renovations. Also we noticed many pine tree removed which makes for a more playable course. Carts are new but provide a revenue stream if you wish to use the yardage feature. Restaurant /bar staff are terrific and he sandwiches excellent. Pace of play was not an issue with the summer heat awaiting at tee off.
Course Condition
Loved the layout of the course. The fairways and greens are In good condition. I enjoyed the shot placement you have to play.
A keeper
Our 14th family beach trip to this area however 1st round of golf at this course - definitely a course we’ll play again next year
Great Golf Course
It is a must play when you are in the Ocean Isle Beach or Holden Beach area. Great value for the money. The golf carts are awesome. I listened to music the entire round and did not have to drain the battery on my phone. The GPS feature also helped a lot.
