About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Great course!
Several of the greens were in rough shape which made putting them very difficult. Overall, the course was fun to play!

Great course!
Overall, the course was fun to play. If I had to point out one thing on the negative side, I would mention the tee boxes were very rough shape. The grass was very high and unlevel in many areas. Other than that, I enjoyed playing the course!

Golf in NC close to Myrtle Beach
Nice course for a 90s player. Plenty of shade areas to get out of the sun. I would definitely play again! Golf Now is the way to book your courses.
The course
The course layout was interesting and challenging. Very nice BUT THE GREENS WERE TERRIBLE BUMPY AND VERY SLOW. We were not sure why so slow....hotvweather and not being able to Mow them properly. But greens definitely takes away from course quality.

Very disappointing
First, note that all staff--from bag drop attendants, starter, pro shop personnel--were very courteous and friendly. No complaints on that front. However, the course was in really bad shape. Tee boxes were hard. weed choked or bare (or a combination), and the fairways were heavily infested with crabgrass. Where the rough had been mowed, large clumps of dead mown grass were left laying around. What little sand was left in the bunkers was hard as a rock. The greens were so heavily sanded as to make putting an exercise in futility. I understand that TS Chantal had dumped rain here a few weeks ago, hindering some course maintenance but other courses we played on our trip were in much, much better condition. We had suggested the Ocean Ridge development "Big Cats" courses to our group based on a very nice experience playing Tiger's Eye several years back. But we definitely feel we let the group down with this recommendation. For $70, this was a very poor value and we will not be back.

The course did struggle during the late spring with some weather-related issue, but we have been working very hard to address those problems and the course is actually making a significant improvement in recent weeks. Hopefully you made your concerns known to our staff on duty on the day you played, as they are always instructed to work with any guests to ensure they are satisfied with their overall golf experience.
