Gripping it and ripping it may be in vogue, but course architect team Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt are not going to let that be the extend of your strategy at Siena Golf Club.

This Las Vegas course is about shot-making more than bombing away. Siena's 97 pot bunkers are arranged to force frequent strategic decisions. Sometimes discretion is the better part of scorecard valor at Siena.

Hooking the ball every which way is paid for dearly at Siena. It's best to go with the clubs you can hit reasonably straight and give up a little distance.

Views of the surrounding mountains are complemented by six different water bodies, including Lake Siena. You'll be strategizing in some striking scenery.

"I don't think you'll come away impressed with this course," marketing director Mick Toscano said. "I think you'll come away awestruck."

First time at Siena Golf Club

Desert golf in the winter means hard and fast. But it doesn't have to mean bunkers that have rocks and poor quality sand.

The greens were probably the best I've played on in a while, very fast and subtle.

The layout is great and in my mind very fair.

The fairways were pretty spotty and the grass was very thin with very tight lies.

Played on a windy day, so the scores were high, but a good time was had. Course was in Ok condition, some bare spots on the fairways and lots of ball marks on the green, but not too bad. Tees were a little bare, but you could find a place to tee. Driving range was very good, restaurant was very good, beverage cart was good.

Greens are okay. Do hold the best but not horrible. Fairways are a 50-50 split. Some places they are good other places have been in bad shape for a few years. Fun course but not really a premium venue for its location.

Will play it when others are not available.

Tee time was few minutes late to start. Still tee off before noon. Overbooked and slow players ahead was very slow round. Over five hours and lost daylight on 18. Not able to complete round. Need marshall to keep pace of play. Our group can play 18 in less than 4 hours. Frustrating for all. Group behind us less than 150 yards out on 15 hit up on us as we were walking off green hitting my hand. No fore and did not come to apologize. They stopped playing and left course.

Slowest Club Ever

Had a 1:16pm tee time, our group of 3 got through 13 holes before the sun went down at 5pm because of all the waiting. Huge waste of money. Very slow and frustrating day. They double or triple booked he tee times. The staff was also very rude.
