Forest Greens Round of Golf
I found my round of golf at Forest Greens to be very enjoyable and a good bargain for the money. They course was challenging, but fair and in pretty decent shape for being the middle of February. The fairways were brown, but what do you expect for this time of year. I will play this course again in the future and recommend it for golfers of all skill levels.
Struggle to finish 18 with 1:36 tee time
Overall good round and great value. Cart BARELY made it through 18 though. Greens were VERY hard to read.
Johsua, thank you for your feedback on your recent visit. We apologize for the sluggish cart, they are getting close to the point where we will have a new fleet. The present fleet has gone around a few times. We hope to see you again soon at the course.
Awesome course!
I'm mid handicap golf player & I love coming to this course. The course conditions overall is great & well-maintained. It's also challenging but also fun playing it. I highly recommend this course.
Thank you for your comments on our course. We look forward to hosting you again int eh spring.
Great Mountain Course
A must-play mountain course in DC area. It is nicely designed and well maintained. Not very long but pretty challenging. Wish there was a marshal to speed up the pace.
On behalf of our staff we would like to thank you for your feedback, we hope to see you again soon at Forest Greens.
Great value
This is a challenging course at a great value. I don't know the slope rating but I rarely had a flat shot.
For $53 on a Saturday morning I will definitely play here again.
Only comment is the greed could have been in slightly better shape, but it's getting to the end of the season.
Thank you for your review, we look forward to your next visit to Forest Greens.
Have to play again when it has been dry and the greens heal.
Most of the course is in good, just a few bunkers and the greens need help. The greens have been punched recently, are very bumpy and need time to heal. A few traps were full of water and unplayable. These are the two main reasons I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. In time both should improve considerably.
Thank you for the review. The course is in wonderful shape with greens fully recovered, and all bunkers manicured since last round of thunderstorms. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Great course
I played this course in August and it was a very good course. Well maintained and the staff was very friendly. I got a chance to meet Dave the head pro and he took care of us! The staff knew about the course and always asked us if we needed anything else. Wonderful people!
For the course itself, I loved the fairways. I could hit off them all day! Green and mowed down to perfection. The course is challenging because of some blind shots. But it was never too hard where we wanted to give up. Just hard enough. It rewards good shots and punishes bad ones just like any good course does.
Had a chance to have a drink with some of the staff after our round, and they were awesome! Nice and easy to talk to.
I would come back to this course in a heart beat!
Thank you so much for you feedback regarding your visit to Forest Greens. We look forward to hosting you again soon.
Great Course!
First time playing Forest Greens but it certainly won't be the last. The staff was very friendly and helpful with the range balls and when I was getting food at the turn. Lots of places I've been to don't show the same kind of friendliness which was a nice experience. The grass range was a good addition but just like the tee boxes throughout the course, it needed some repairs. The course was in great shape overall. The greens were nice and the fairways were even better. Riding through the course was great with all of the creatively designed holes and gorgeous views. Even though the temp was over 100 when I played here, I'd gladly go back and most likely will. Definitely recommend this course!
Thank you for the feedback in your review. The fall has been a time of recovery form a very challenging summer for turf. Although we held up well as you note, we have also recovered this fall. I think you would really enjoy it if you can get back out for another round before winter hits.
Play it
Although I donated some balls here, I feel it was a fair test of golf skills. Majority of the course is in good shape and considering the time of year is still this good says something about management.
Thank you for the positive feedback. The fall has provided ideal temps for full recovery from our hot/humid summer. If you liked it last time, I am sure you would love it now. We look forward to seeing you again at Forest Greens.
Great Value
Came up from Richmond and played course for the first time and really enjoyed the layout. Fun course, super friendly staff, and a great bang for the buck!
Thank you so much for your review. We try to provide a friendly experience and a good value for our guests. The course is in great shape for the fall, there is still time for another round before winter hits the middle Atlantic region.
Thank you for your recent review of our course. We look forward to your next visit.
Great value!
This course was in great condition, especially in light of the terrible weather conditions we've been experiencing. Plus a friendly staff and excellent value for the money.
Thank you so much for your recent review of our course. I think you would love the fall conditions as well. We look forward to your next visit.
Thank you for your recent review of Forest Greens. We are thrilled you enjoyed your round, and look forward to your next visit.
Satisfied Customer
I have played over 15 courses in the Northern Virginia area and I must say I am pleasantly surprised in my experience for playing this course with the affordable prices it offers. I played around 11am with a couple who happened to be members and truly enjoyed my time. The pace of play was great although we ran into a slow down on the back but that didn't last long because the marshal solved that issue. The staff was nice and welcoming and the food service was quick and enjoyable. The course was in great condition although the sand traps cause use a little help. Overall I would definitely recommend this course and will be returning with friends
We would like to thank you for your recent feedback on your tip to Forest Greens. Please come back to see us again soon.
Pleasant Surprise!!!
I played Forest Greens the other day at the suggestion of a friend. We were looking for a place to play that was in between for both of us. We checked out the site, read a few reviews and decided to give it a try. I am a 9 handicap so better than average. The staff were friendly and helpful when I told them this was my first visit to the course. The shop attendant told me where to go, how to get the range balls, and the starter name I was looking for. Once on the course I was pleasantly surprised by the design. The layout was fun and challenging enough, but it did not beat me up to bad for my first visit. We also played the white tees at the suggestion of the starter Ted. While it did make it a bit friendlier, I will play the blue tees next time back. The conditions were very good, especially considering the heat we have had this summer. I now some of my favorite courses conditions were not as nice as these. There were the typical ball marks, but not terrible...The fairways were great..Tees were good. Bunkers need some help, but were okay. I would say it is worth the drive and is a great value. I also would recomend the pulled pork tacos if they are on the menu when you go out.
Thank you for the detailed feedback. We hope to see you again soon out at Forest Greens.
PDP Membership Review
The golf course is in fair shape but is unforgiving. It is not recommended for high handicappers. My gripe is with the PDP program which is a one set fee and includes driving range privileges. I like the idea of hitting golf balls, but the problem is managerial decisions without telling the players. They change the days when the driving range is closed and hours of operation without warning. Not good!
Thank you for your review. The course has help up well to the dog days of summer. We strive to be consistent with our programs. The PDP program allows access to the range 7am to 7pm, with the exception of Tuesday when it closes at 4pm, and reopens at 10am or earlier on Wednesdays. This simply allows us the opportunity to perform normal maintenance for the range area overall. If you have any further questions please come to see me on your next visit.
Thank you again.
Good course; nice folks, traps need work; slow start
Title says it all. Sand traps need sand, period. They don't drain because they are mud. Starter is always behind...nice if you're a walk on but frustrating if you are trying to stay on track. This course is close so I golf it a lot but it's an average course.
Thank you for your feedback. Our bunkers are a work in progress, and hope your find them more playable on you next visit. We have made some changes in our operations which has helped maintain tee times, and pace of play. We look forward to you next visit to the club.
Enjoyable golf experience
Rates are very reasonable. Course is outstanding for a county public course. Very Pictureque.
Thank you for the feedback, and positive feedback regarding our golf course. Please come and visit us again soon.
Forest Greens Golf Course
The course was in excellent shape. Plays well
Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our golf course. We look forward to your next visit to Forest Greens Golf Club.
Overbooked
Tee times were overbooked and there were no carts available at our tee time. We eventually did get a cart. Five hour round. The Poa Annua has taken over the greens making them almost impossible to putt. I understand the grass has not greened up yet due to the cold but there is no grass in several of the fairways, I felt like I was hitting off of packed sand. There was no beverage cart out on a Sunday? The management needs to take charge maintaining this course or they are going to loose it by mid summer.
Thanks for playing Forest Greens and providing your comments. The course conditions have changed quite a bit since you played. The Bermuda fairways have come out of dormancy and the greens have healed after aeration. We apologize for not meeting your expectations. We were short-staffed the day you played and did not provide the level of service we are known for. Please give us another try and stop in to see the GM afterwards to let me know how it went. Thanks!
Ugly Conditions
Generally FG's was in terrible overall condition. Fairways appeared dormant and yet lacked even a hint of base grass. Fairway shot were off dirt. Tee boxes were average at best. Bunkers played were rock filled dirt messes as were the ones just viewed in passing. Greens are second rate, uneven and poorly maintained.
Grass tee driving range mats only, was disappointing.
Pass was slow slow slow!
Will avoid this course for a while.
Grass range is now open for the season and the course has greened up. Because of our turf type, we need prolonged stretches of warm days and nights to get the grass going. We are green, healthy and now look like other courses in the area. Come see for your self and let us know how what you think.
We are happy to hear your experience was a good one. You are correct that the dormant bermuda fairways are brown during the winter. When warmer temps come they will come out of the winter sleep to an emerald green. Please come back this spring when the entire course is in full bloom.
