No sign Under maintenance
We went to the course and check-in as usual. The staff told us that today course was closed on back nine so you have to repeat first nine to finish 18 holes at regular price we booked online with golfnow. How could that be that staff told us to check the course before making tee time? I cancelled and walked out Golf now should make a note on the course on line and show the sign of maintenances for customer.
Good course
Disappointed could play back nine only work on front
Thank you for your feedback. The maintenance had been scheduled for sometime. We have reached out to Golf Now to ensure that pertinent information will be available to golfers booking tee times through them. Come back and enjoy a round with us.
Thin Course to Play
It's been about 4 to 5 years since I last played this particular course and I was really impressed by how much better the fairways and Greens were maintained than my last visit. Had an enjoyable round and will definitely be back.
Thanks for your positive comments. Look forward to seeing you again.
A "must play" course here in NOVA
Challenging, but fun for all skilled levels. The only downside is that fairways could be better...
Thank you for your feedback. Maintenance has been working on the few holes that need some extra care. Come back and play us again.
good round
overall a nice course with a few moderately difficult holes . Course was in good shape and pace of play was fair..played as a single and once i got through 2 groups ahead of me (a little older but both very polite and offered to let me play through) the pace of play picked up considerably..A bit of an older crowd playing this day. Not sure if that's the norm for a Thursday morning or not but that's what was there that day. All in all an enjoyable round. Never did see a cart girl that day but have played here before and know they typically have one...again maybe not on a Thursday (i played on the weekend before)
Good feedback. We enjoy all age groups at Forest Greens and your patience was admirable playing behind some slower golfers. Come back and play again.
Nice Course
Weather was good, course was busy but never waited very long. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all in nice shape. Fairways a little wet but considering how much rain we have had, that was expected. Overall a nice course for the money.
It's nice to get great feedback.Come back and enjoy another round at Forest Greens
Beautiful course with great potential.
The course is very scenic. Lots of elevation changes to make it interesting. I love that a lot of the greens are on a lower elevation than the tee or fairway, which makes for a lovely view on approaches. The only drawback is the condition of the fairways. Lots of bare spots. I was told the Bermuda grass are having difficult time growing. If the fairways were nicer, I would pay extra $20-$30 to play this course. Staff was great and the pace was expected for a low priced course like this.
Thanks for your feedback. The fairways took longer than expected to fill in but we are in great shape now. Come back and enjoy the golf and the view.
Some challenge... Some scoring... Some fun
Transit from Belvoir to Triangle was the worst part. 15 mile drive turned into 50 mins. Check-in was pretty quick. Starter was a nice guy. A very attainable course. Just a couple "tough" holes. (Holes 10 and 18 are pretty deep) Par 3s have good sized greens to help you actually have a shot at a few GIRs. Was a 2-some, but had 4 in front of us and then another 2-some got sent out right after us, which was a bit odd, because we offered to make it a 4. (Didn't like having 2 dudes directly behind us all day) solid pace of play though. Finished our round at just under 4hrs. Overall, liked the course. Train the starter up some more. More beverage carts on course, especially in 95 degree weather.
Thanks for the feedback. Starters have received training on pairing up twosomes and singles.Come back and enjoy another round
Worth the drive
You never know what to expect with traffic headed South on 95. On a good day this trip to the course is well worth the travel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Course is in good condition. Pace of play moves well. Bugs, bugs, bugs beetles must be in season and if you venture under trees be sure to check for tics when you get home. Challenging course that lets you bomb away and test your short game.
Great feedback. Come back soon.
Fun hilly course off of I-95
Forest Greens is right off of the interstate but doesn't feel that way--only one hole has even a hint of a freeway view. Lots of undulation and tree-lined fairways provide some difficulty, but if you can keep the ball in the fairway you should have plenty of birdie opportunities. However, more novice players in my group struggled with the trees and some uphill or across-a-valley tee shots.
The whole place gives off a very mid-'90s vibe (opened in 1995, I believe), with a cart-oriented design. I like walking but probably wouldn't try to here.
The doglegs will often take driver out of your hands, but even from the blue tees the course does not play very long. Bermuda fairways were in pretty good shape when I played in June, and the greens were slow but true. Bunkers had a few larger pebbles in them, but fortunately I only found the sand once.
Certainly some fun risk/reward holes, including two reachable par-5s, a drivable par 4 on the 2nd hole, and some doglegs that invite an aggressive tee shot. The trees, however, are in play from most tees, and the greens are large and receptive, so conservative play off of the tee may be the best strategy.
Several blind tee shots make playing with a regular or taking a quick tour of the hold before teeing off a good idea. A rangefinder or yardage book could also help on the many holes where longer hitters will wonder if driver or even 3-wood is too much.
Staff was friendly and the starter let us off a bit early, but pace slowed down considerably on the back nine. Both times I have played here there has been a large backup at the 10th tee, partly because it's a reachable par-5, but with an uphill tee shot that causes problems for mid-handicappers.
A course I'll return to, but on par with other area courses.
Will try to update with some photos next time I play.
Thanks for your positive feedback. Hope to see you soon.
Excellent!
Greens and aprons were in excellent shape. Bermuda grass fairways are filling in nicely. Rough was up a bit making for challenging shots. Grounds crews were out working to bring the course to great playing conditions.
Two groups in front of us slowed down a bit on the back nine. We did not seen a course marshal to speed them up.
Very friendly staff.
It is a great value for the money.
Thank you for a very nice review of Forest Greens. Thank you also for your conerns about pace of play.
Forest Green
Course overall needs work on the fairways grass cut to low it seems
Thanks for playing Forest Greens and passing along your comments. We have Bermuda grass fairways. The grass just started growing a couple of weeks ago when the nighttime temperatures finally got up to 55 degrees. The fairways are filling in nicely and have come a long way since the beginning of May. They will just keep getting better over the ensuing weeks. Come back and play us again in a couple of weeks and let us know what you think.
Thanks!
Quite Nice!
I enjoyed our round today at the Tourney we played. I found the greens and fairways to be in great shape - I would play here again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for the endorsement! Glad you had a great time at Forest Greens. See you soon.
Forest Greens
The course was generally in good condition it rained very heavily the night before and the course handled pretty well. The cart path was probably the worst of the course. Between the rough condition of the blacktop and the mud/dirt...the golf path needs most of the attention from the staff.
The couse has a hand full of blind tee shots which if u haven't played the course before makes it some what difficult. Greens and tees were in great shape, even after a couple of inches of rain. All in all a good course to play
Thanks for playing Forest Greens and passing on your comments. Glad you enjoyed the round, despite the wet conditions.
We are working on the areas off the cart paths. Much more to do, as you noted. We will also start doing some cart path repairs in the near future.
Thanks again and hope to see you at the course again soon.
Must Play!!!!
This course always has their tee times start on time, almost always less than a 4.5 hour 18 hole round. If you are in the area this is a must play.
Thanks for the great review! We are glad you enjoy playing at Forest Greens and appreciate the kind words.
Fairways are horrible
Nice layout, but fairways don't have any grass at all. Mostly dirt. Greens will be fine once temperature warms up to help overcome aeration. But I repeat, the fairways are totally unacceptable. I have played other courses with dormant bent grass but this is not dormant, it is non existent.
Thanks for playing Forest Greens and thanks for the review. The fairways are certainly not where we would like them to be. Unfortunately, with the cold, late spring, the Bermuda grass has been slow to start growing. We currently have decent turf coverage on the fairways, estimated to be around 90%. In the areas that are bare, grass is starting to grow. Believe it or not, based on history, the bare areas will be mostly filled in within 2-3 weeks now that warm weather has arrived. We hope you'll come back then to give us another try. Thanks again.
Great Round!
We had beautiful weather. The course is in reasonable shape following a hard winter and late spring. There were many other foursomes wanting to play and so the course was crowded. Pace of play was slow, but the marshals kept things moving. Too many people playing from the long tees when they should have been playing from the white or gold tees..
Thanks for the favorable comments. Glad to hear the marshal was helpful in keeping things moving along on a busy day. Now, if we could just convince everyone to play from the proper tees. See you soon.
Tight Fairways
Somewhat challenging course with plenty of hills and tight fairways. It seemed like at least half of the holes were either 20-30 feet higher or lower than where I would have my approach shot. Very hard fairways which makes the ball roll forever. Played in late spring and fairways where very brown with a lot of dirt spots.
Good Morning. Thanks for playing Forest Greens and thanks for the review. With the cold spring, our Bermuda grass fairways have been slow to come out of dormancy. They are finally starting grow and those bare spots will begin filling in. Hope you will get a chance to come back in a few weeks when the fairways will be much better.
Terrible Condition
I have played this course about 5 times and this was by far the worst condition it has ever been in. The fairways have little if any grass on them. It is like playing off of clay. The rough is incredibly thick.
I would not recommend anyone to play here until they get the course in a decent condition.
My apologies that the course conditions were not what you have come to expect at Forest Greens. Unfortunately, the cool, wet spring has provided excellent growing conditions for the rough and we are fighting to keep up, as most courses in the area are. The same weather has been detrimental to the growth of our Bermuda fairways which need consistent, warm weather to start growing. They will start filling in once the weather warms and we can start our spring treatment program. Thanks for coming out and sharing your comments. We look forward to seeing you again a little later into the season.
Just a tough day in the office
I've played this course two dozen times over the past 10 years or so. It is just a hard round of golf. Each and every one of the holes has something a little "extra" to it that makes it out of the ordinary in terms of toughness. If you can get through this 18 without reaching desperately for a beer, you'll be lucky. I would not say that it is the hardest course that I have ever played, but it's in the top 5. It just keeps you grinding and grinding and grinding for 5 hours. And eventually...you're going to break down. Right about the 15th hole. And you're just going to be glad to finish. The problem with it is that it is not just long, a lot of courses are long. The thing is that all of the holes have some weird funkiness to them which makes them tough AND long.. And in the summer? It gets obscenely hot. A hot, long, tough 18? That's not "recreation" it's self-abuse. This course borders right on self-abuse. Even when it's not that hot. When it *is* hot? It's just ridiculous.
Thanks for playing and posting your comments. We might have to look into a big fan to help keep our golfers cooled off in the summer. Seriously, we sincerely appreciate your patronage and your positive review. Hope to see you again soon.
