Good track but pace of play terrible
I used to play here a decade ago in high school but rarely go now due to such bad traffic on 95N & S 7 days a week. Went this week there was a frost delay so we got pushed back an hour. Once we started, we waited 3-7 minutes per shot on every hole. There was no visible Marshall and the pace just got to be too much. Four hours and 9 holes later we threw in the towel and the staff happily gave us a rain check.
Pros: Challenging terrain and layout, course was in good condition for December.
Cons: I experienced an extremely slow pace of play which was very frustrating. There was no one in the café in the am or even at the turn. Staff was professional and pleasant.
This Time Better Than Last
The fairways are manicured yet dry - the greens and tees are green.
The course is challenging and the fairways tight.
Good course, can be challenging!
Play the right tees for your skill! Missing fairways on this course will prove to be a CHALLENGING 18 holes!
Some fairways have hard surface. Couple blindshots. Overall good course. Find a good deal to play it.
Value Golf
Can't beat this course for the price. Got it as a Hot Deal and was not disappointed.
The most challenging thing about this course would have to be the greens. All the pin locations seemed to be on the side of a slope.
Course lay out is Good but green speed is too late
Course lay out is good but greens are too long glasses.
Aeration Blows Round
First time at Forest Greens this year. One of my favorite courses, with some of my favorites holes in NVA. Stop going as often a couple of years ago because of the often horrible traffic between home (Alexandria) and the course. Was looking for something different and decided to give it another go. Entire group arrived early, easy Golfnow reserved transaction in the Pro Shop, and we're on the tee box about 20 minutes early. From tee to green, course is in great shape, but that's where the problem starts. I guess they're on a different schedule for aerating greens. Most courses I play aerated weeks ago and the greens have healed. No so at Forest Greens. My group essentially conceded every putt within five feet, it was so bumpy. Otherwise, enjoy the great layout and conditions of the course. We had a good time.
Pace of play horrible
Nice course but the pace of play is horrible. Fourth time this summer I've played here and will the last for a long time.
Tired of sitting in my cart with 2 other foursomes ahead of me at each tee box. You hit your tee shot and wait some more.
People on the greens putting must think their Tiger Woods cause it takes them 10 minutes to get off the green.
Gorgeous Golf
The weather was perfect and the course was not crowded. The course was in great condition except for the greens which were recently aerated and sandy. When checking in the staff offered us a senior discount to $35 without asking. We felt this was tendered due to the condition of the greens. Overall our threesome had a terrific day and will play Forest Greens again.
Forest Greens
Nice layout but the course was beaten up. Good practice facility.
This course challenges your golf game.
The course is well kept and the greens are near emaculate. My golf game has improved after playing here a couple of times this year. Put breaks are deceiving and fairways are awesome.
One of My Favorite Courses
Great greens with a friendly staff. First time I played was during a Golf Scramble Tournament and I have continued to come back to play on my own or with a friend.
Great condition
The course is great condition and pace of play was very good until we hit the people playing a tournament and had to wait at the 10th tee for about 20 minutes
Great value for a good course!
Played forest greens on a sunday morning. Typical Sunday crowd for a Northern VA course. Tee times were about 15 minutes behind, but the starter was friendly and offered course tips. Fairways were a bit thin, and some spots had recently been aerated. Greens rolled great! Round pushed 5 hours, but the course was extremely crowded. Great value for a Sunday with a Golfnow.com discount of $25 per person with cart.
Keep it on the short grass
This course has a fine layout. Greens, fairways and tee boxes are nicely maintained, but the off-fairway areas are overgrown which "over-protects" the course's score and slows the pace of play. Best on weekdays.
We played at the wrong time.
We were told at the start of our round that the front 9 holes had been aerated and were closed and we'd have to play the back 9 twice to get in 18 holes, however, when we got to the end of the 18th hole, the 10th tee had been closed and there was no one to tell us what to do. We eventually learned that we were to play the front 9 for our second 9 holes, however, the fairways were very poor with all the aeration holes and pieces of hard dirt. In addition, the course managers had not put out water jugs at all the spots for the front 9 holes.
Good time
Certainly enjoyed our round. Grass driving range is a huge plus. Friendly staff. Greens were good. But fairways need work.
Wide open spaces
Overall good course. Fairways are open with low to medium rough. If you hit it left or right into the trees then it is probably a lost ball due to high grassy areas below the tree line. I would recommend playing on a weekday. Pace of play on Saturday was over 5 hours.
Early Weekday Play
This is an excellent course to play if you can get down there early or if you live close. Course is well maintained and in excellent condition right now. I've played this course as a two-some in 3 hours. For $39 you can't beat it. They have a grass range so you don't have to hit off mats.
It would be nice if they had a starter to enforce tee times.
Great Course
I try and play Forest Greens at least twice a month. Great course for the price, staff very friendly and helpful, course always in good condition. Can be somewhat challenging for the first time player as there are several blind holes. This is a gem of a courses hidden in Tirangle, VA just off 95.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Mr. Rosenberg,
Thank you for playing Forest Greens last week. We appreciate your feedback on your round as it helps us improve our service to you and our guests in the future. The weather hasn’t been kind to us and rain last the week caused us to follow the cart path only policy. Unfortunately, that often has an impact on the pace of play which you experienced. We will work better to redirect staff to accommodate the busier days. Please feel free to share additional feedback at info@forestgreensgolf.com
We hope to see you in the near future on the links!
Cheers,
Tom Coffman
