Brooksville Country Club offers a uniquely scenic experience with a rolling landscape covered with live oaks and remnants of the abandoned limestone mine still present throughout. The surroundings are unlike any other golf courses in central Florida, which has made it popular amongst both locals and visitors. Besides the beautiful scenery, the terrain provides dramatic elevation changes that make each hole unique. The traditional layout features contoured, rolling fairways and four memorable holes that play along and through a century-old quarry. The golf course starts out gently but becomes progressively more challenging as you head towards the back nine, which was designed by Bobby Weed. It is a layout that demands precision and rewards skillful shotmaking. In addition to the unique setting and challenging design, Brooksville Country Club also boasts immaculately conditioned fairways and greens.

The only let down with today’s round was the greens, they were in absolutely terrible condition.

What a Shame

This place was always a hidden gem. Now open farmland is better suited as a course. Some tee boxes (very few) have green grass, and that’s where it stops. Fairways are trampled down rough. The greens are 80% sand that’s rock hard. On a downhill putt from 10ft away, you can tap your ball and it’ll roll 10-15yds off the green because there’s no grass to slow it down.

As someone who’s grown up in this area, this was always a go-to course. Exceptional layout with some of the most fun holes you can find on any back 9. But, if I’m being objective, this course is no longer worth the price of admission regardless of how uniquely attractive some of the holes are (or used to be).

Going through a rough patch

I've played BCC about 10 times and it's one of my favorites, worth the 90 minute drive. The back nine "quarry holes" are memorable, challenging and fun. Unfortunately, the course is suffering from poor conditions right now. The greens (front nine especially) are mostly dirt, play like concrete and made the round laughable. We hung in there for the quarry holes and had a good time. I will definitely play again when the course conditions improve.

Atrocious

We've played here before. The last time, about four weeks prior, the course was in bad shape, but we gave it another chance. We thought the course would improve. Nope... it got worse.

Greens were crusty with patches of clay everywhere. We decided that as long as we were close to the hole, the putt was good. The fairways were burnt, patcy and like concrete. It was preferred lies all day. Add to it the slow pace of play, it was a waste.

Left after the eighth hole. Will never return.

Glimmer of hope but not up to snuff with the price boost

Live near by and the course fell into complete disarray for the past year or so. Management seemed to acknowledge there was an issue and kept the prices lower since Summer. The last month or 2 I’ve seen them out later turning on sprinklers, mending some rough spots, and putting new sand in bunkers. I’ll admit some of the tee boxes have made a great recovery but some of the greens are still unplayable basically. it left a bit of a bad taste that the prices are already back up before the course even has a chance to grow in at all from any of the hard work and garner some good will of returning business and show off their effort after neglecting this absolute gem of a course.

Should have read the reviews

Really terrible conditions. The greens are 70-90% dirt, except for a few holes on the back nine. Even those greens were not up to an acceptable standard.

It’s a shame, because the staff is very friendly. A year ago, we would gladly drive the extra 30 minutes from St. Pete due to the great experience this course offered for the price. It was in Good Shape, what happened! A direct result of poor management. At this point, I don’t think you could pay me to play this course again.

An incredibly frustrating experience. I hit the ball well that day, but putting was a nightmare. If you can make Birdie here, without sticking it a foot from the hole on your approach shot, it is by blind luck.

Without a doubt, this is the worst-conditioned golf course I’ve ever played—and it’s not even close.

No good and sad

From tee box to green, the course was in such terrible shape. Even the fairways were dirt in most areas. Some greens were in-puttable. Big disappointment especially when they charge you $50

Poor course conditions

Played here before and loved it but the course is in extremely bad shape. The greens in the first nine holes were terrible and not playable at all. Course is better in the beck nine but clearly has not been watered in some time.

Bad shape

They really need to do something about this place. It was only $25 to play but man it was rough. Used to be one of the best courses around.

Sadly, this was the worst course I ever played.

Sadly, this was the worst course I ever played. The one signature hole had a bit of grass on the green. No grass on the greens, mostly just sand. Course needs lots of TLC.

We had a wonderful day after Christmas

If we were there to play golf alone it would have been disappointing, BUT we really had a fun time. My wife and I play a scramble against our daughter and son-in-law. If the greens had grass instead of sand I think we would have scored better. We really had a great time. The staff were great!

Bonneville Salt Flats Greens

The greens are terrible! They reminded me of the Bonneville Salt Flats proving grounds. I can play courses that have poor fairways and tee box areas ( which this course also has in plenty) but geez, too many shoddy greens makes for a regrettable waste of time and money. However, the back nine (9) is the fun layout of the course. Even so, I would be “hard-pressed” to play this course again until the greens are better.

Poor Greens/ Fairways

The fairways were furry, you couldn’t tell if you were in the fairway or rough. It like playing in someone back yard.

Greens were nothing but sand, patchy, bumpy, inconsistent. Probably the worst greens a played on.

The course would be fun if they took care of it.
