Meadowlark Golf Course
About
Meadowlark Golf Club in Huntington Beach is a player-friendly layout that is a popular choice amongst locals. Like most classically designed layouts, the course is short and tight but that also makes it easily walkable. The pin placements on the greens can be tricky and there are also some challenging water hazards that come into play on several holes. The golf course will test your short game skills but there are wide, player-friendly fairways that balance the trickier elements. Beware, though, numerous trees on the golf course make many of the tee shots tight and narrow. It is not an overly difficult layout but it is an enjoyable round that players of any skill level will enjoy. Meadowlark also offers affordable rates that make it doubly appealing.

Old style course
The tee boxes were slanted and the greens very small . The greens themselves were at least green, but if you do not find the flag, forget about it. Pace was alright, but it was a Tuesday afternoon and it should be a good pace. Fun if you no other than to play golf in the sun, which is never a bad thing,
Medowlark
Grest course!! Awesome weather! ! Reasonable prices, look for hot deals!!
Sunday outing
We decided friends and I to play at the last minute, so for last decision it was a good place to play , greens we re and good condition, the pace of play no bad, good times!
Very friendly patrons
Had a great with an 84 year man named frank. Bartender was on point
Sooooo slow
Hard to play when there is a wait at every hole. Quit playing golf years ago because of slow play and this was a reminder.
Fun Round, Bad Pace
The pace was horrible. They really need a starter on the first tee or at least a marshal on the course. We got paired up as a 4 and there was at least 3 groups playing as 2's ahead of us. Slowed everything down. Golfers were yelling throwing golf balls at each other.
The course itself was in decent condition, it was overly wet too.
Nice course but slow
I like the course. the price was right.....it played pretty slow most rounds 5 hours......no marshals and people were just starting on there own on the back nine with no one to stop them.....had a few jump a few holes.......I didn't appreciate that they don't regulate people better but I enjoyed the course......they seem to over book a bit maybe that's why it's so slow....but they really need marshals to watch that people don't just start on the back nine because the first whole they have to wait.....I will play there again but they need to fix some problems to make it better for everyone
Slow, dangerous round!
Teeing off at 10:50 on a Monday would seem to make a long round unlikely, but not at Meadowlark. 5 hrs. and 15 mins for a round of golf is just too long for my tastes. Waiting 3-5 minutes for each shot makes it very difficult to get into any kind of rhythm; normally, I'd spend a round like that drinking as many beers as possible, but I needed to save my drinking 'til later in the day that day--had a date with my wife that night, and didn't want to be hammered. So, I was forced to stay sober and, thus, endure a painfully slow round of golf.
Other than several uneven and quite destroyed-by-unfilled-divots tee boxes, the course was in pretty good shape. The greens were occasionally peppered with unfixed ball marks, but I blame the idiots in front of us for that. I've never seen such a high concentration of bad golfers other than last Monday; my playing partner and I joked that helmets should be issued in the clubhouse, as balls were whizzing right past us from all directions with too few audible "fore!" warnings the entire round!
I don't mind bad golfers--I acknowledge that we've all been through it at one point or another, so poor play doesn't bother me. However, SLOW bad golf DOES annoy me. Bad players must be conscious enough to realize when they're creating a back-up, and do something to expedite the process (fewer practice swings, less time lining up putts, dropping a ball 150 out and playing from there, etc.), otherwise everyone suffers. Unfortunately, this concept is clearly foreign to some players, so I believe it becomes the marshall's job to get those players moving, and that is one of the ways in which Meadowlark fails. A tendency to pack too many players on the course coupled with an ineffective or non-existent marshall leaves Meadowlark golfers feeling cheated, or, at the least, disappointed. We saw our "Marshall" only once, and that was only after a twosome jumped in front of us on the 9th tee box, citing that they were "in a hurry," causing some kind-hearted soul behind us to call the pro shop. The "Marshall" (in quotes because he was some 18 year old kid who didn't even take out his ear buds to apologize to us about the twosome's faux pas and the 3 hr front nine...not doing much "marshaling") conversed with the offending twosome right in the middle of the fairway (where I was planning to land my recovery shot) for a good 3-4 minutes. When I whistled to get their attention, the kid yelled back, seemingly irritated at ME for some reason, "Hang ON...I'm trying to get everyone back in LINE!" On the next tee box, they let us play through (ironically though, they started the day several groups behind us, so it was strange to thank them for "letting" us through). I only mention this because it was an ironically stupid way to attempt to reconcile the situation, and seems indicative of how things are run at Meadowlark; not blatantly offensive or obviously bad for business, but the staff there handle things in ways that are just a little obnoxious, likely ineffective, and delivered with a slight tone of condescension (or at least a lack of gratitude/professionalism when interacting with customers). I'd say it's about 5% overpriced, too...there are much better courses with better staffs for same or lower green fees In the area, so I'd recommend you keep hunting.....
Good burgers and bloody Mary's, though!
State of Starter
Showed up on time and was sent out to play by this gorgeous woman. At tee two groups of replay men's club members scooted in front waited for starter to say something nothin occurred took matters in own hands and requested to t off before the two fivesomes and was allowed.T'd off and a couple joined me upsetting the two groups and starting a very slow round of 12 holes of golf the two groups joined together to form a group of 10 yes 10.Left the course at this point the group roamed from hole to whichever hole they wanted to play.WOW!!!!
Fist time finished this cousre under 4 hours
The pace of play was the best I have ever played at this golf course. Maybe because everyone was in the bar. couldn't get a beer if I tried, and I did three times with no luck. waited 5 to 10 mins. each time with no luck. needed to keep up pace of play. No refreshment cart to be found either. Oh well saved myself some $$$
Good value for the money.
Used golf now app. Very well maintained and nice pro shop.
Help us out here
The course itself wasn't bad by any means but just overbooked in every aspect. Our round took 6 hours...never saw a single Marshall to help initiate any type of slow play problems from the people playing two balls all day long. Took over an entire days vacation for a course that's less than 5500 yards. Not enjoyable....
Pace of Play
Overall the course is in good shape and fair. However, I was extremely disappointed in the pace of play. We were stacked 2-3 deep on every single hole with no marshal in sight. I will not be coming back unless I have absolutely nothing to do for the day because the round took over SIX hours not including the warmup time on the range.
The staff are all excellent,,,
The computer was down so scheduling issues caused very slow play. This has not happened when I have played before. Normally a great experience.
Busy course.
I have never seen a course so busy in my life. Tee time was 11:45, started at 12:00 no carts. We finished at 5:30. This was on a Sunday afternoon. My wife and I were paired up with two nice golfers who made the day go by faster. The course was in good shape. You could miss right or left on most holes and still recover. On about 5 holes there were 3 sets of golfers waiting to tee off. With all this going on we still had fun. Met some wonderful people that shared the love of golf. On vacation, time was not an issue. Any other occasion this maybe a big issue.
Meadowlark
Solid round of golf for 20$. True greens. Wait wasn't bad on a Wednesday at 3:00 and finished with plenty of daylight left
Avoid this course if you can
I've played a few times here, and so far the closest I've started to my scheduled tee time was 15 minutes after (one was 40 minutes after). Multiple groups have always been at the 1st tee waiting to go (no pressure).
Because they pack in groups so tightly, I have yet to have a round under 5 hours here. I've played at various times and days, and it doesn't seem to matter. My latest was Wednesday, mid-morning, and I finished in a bit over 5 and a half hours. Shocking.
No Marshall
Played front 9 under 2 hours. After the turn random groups and single's came out of the trees???? Back 9 took over 3 1/2 hours!
Fun
Some friends and I decided to play this course since it is local. It was a beautiful day and the course was fun. The only con was the pace of play due to overbooking. I would say after the 9th hole things started to pick up, but you can't really complain for the price. It is an overall good course and I would play it again.
