The Hills Course at Red Hawk
About
The Resort at Redhawk is known to golf travelers around the globe and is one of the highlights of the grand golf destination that is the High Sierra. Located in the town of Sparks, next door to Reno, the Hills Course is one of two 18-hole runs at Redhawk and draws raves for its challenging play and incredible scenery.
Designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin, the Hills Course offers players a Scottish links-style layout that has small and dastardly greens, dramatic elevation changes, deep bunkering and immaculate views of one of the most scenic golf destinations in the United States.
While the Hills Course is a must play in the Reno area and will challenge long hitters with a 127 slope rating, Irwin added another touch to the resort. A unique, 18-hole putting green will have players competing, all the while improving their putting game, helping to make Redhawk and the Hills Course a standout in the High Sierra.

Great day of golf
Got paired up with an old timer. Great company. The cart girl was awesome. Brought me a sandwich I was to lazy to get at the bar. View is great. Much better than the lakes course.
Hills but not mountains
Great course. Need to allow several minutes to reach the tee box from the pro shop and extra time to find your way. Hill course was very green and not rocky like most mountain courses. Fairways were sometimes narrow but very good overall.
renoruona
I recently played this course with my parents visiting reno from the san jose area..I live in reno nevada..Love the courses here..The hills course much more difficult for lies and putting the lakes tough and fair water and placement key..chris ruona reno nevada
Reno golf
I would think that this one of the better courses here in Reno. We visited from San Diego and looking for a nice course on Golf Now ( for a good rate), found this course in good conditions and challenging enough with the tough pin placement on the greens.
Called Hill course for a reason
The golf course goes up and down over several hundred feet on some holes. The course was in great shape and the greens rolled really well fantastic putting surfaces so it stayed online. Would NOT walk this course its extremely hilly. Easier than the the lakes course. Staff was really nice and pointed us to the first tee and cleaned my clubs after the round which was a nice touch. In my opinion both Red Hawk courses are in the top 3 or 4 in Reno/Sparks would play both courses again. There is water on the course but it was hot and I am glad we brought extra water with us.
Great views of sparks on this course.
Such nice relaxing views and environment will playing on this course.
Course needs some signage and customer service
This course has GPS controlled carts, this is fine if the staff would have explained the workings ofthe cart. By not having control of the cart it can put you in a bad position and leaves you trying to back out of a bad sidehill with no power. The course was beautiful and the level of difficulty was just enough to make it a good challenge. Pace of play was horrible as we ran into the typical 4 old ladies hitting the ball 30 yards at a time. But seeing a herd of Elk on the course made up for it. I would play this course again if I am back in the area.
Hills Course Red Hawk
The course, the facilities and pace of play were excellent. Enjoyed the course layout and scenery including the wildlife very much.
Nice Course
I truly enjoyed playing this course. I played from the black tees and it was a fair test. I really liked the Poana greens. Being from Georgia I play mostly on Bermuda. Playing the Hills course the scenery was spectacular overlooking the Sparks area. Got to see up close two coyotes roaming the fairways. Got some good pictures of that. Overall I will definitely play this cours again if I am back in he area.
Good condition
Of the two courses this is the better half though its effectively un-walkable. Was in excellent condition. The GPS and incessant messages from the onboard computer are a nuisance and very irritating. Two beers and a Gatorade from the cart girl was 16 dollars? You have to be kidding.
Beautiful Course!
This was my 3rd time playing this course, and shot the Best round of my life!! Course condition is superb and scenery is beautiful! Course knowledge is Huge, because of some blind tee shots and dog legs. My only gripe, which was kind of a Big deal because of Heat; was there were no cart girls/no cold beverages!! It was a weekday but still, the course does not come near the clubhouse on the turn so we were pretty much stuck out there. Minus that, I recommend course!
A great golf experience
We played the Lakes course, had lunch and then played the Hills. Condition of both were excellent. The Lakes course may better be named the Traps course. Someone said there are over a hundred traps. I found my share! But this beauty is a joy to play. The Hills course has to be among the all time favorites. We came back a second day to play the Hills again. Awesome.
The golf was a great experience. But the restaurant was a major surprise. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all fantastic. A destination in itself. Great staff, great golf, great food..... We will be back.
love the course but....
This is the 2nd time playing the hills course and it did not disappoint. Groomed fairways and fast greens as well as a great layout. Only thing my partner and I could complain about is the hole placements. I like a challenge but it seemed every hole was tucked into a tournament position. One par 3 over water was put on the top of a null 4 feet from the edge of the green. Maybe they were having a tournament later in the day. It would have been nice to go to the center of the greens and at least have a look at a make-able birdie. But the course was great and can't wait to get back.
One of Reno's Best
Played Red Hawk's Hills course and it was in excellent condition. The fairways were green, the greens were very smooth and it's a very nice layout. In the Reno-area, I have played Lakeridge, Wolf Run and Red Hawk and Red Hawk is my favorite.
Good time
Nice course. Was more challenging after the wind picked up. Prices a bit high to quench your thirst.
Midday play
Course is dry and greens very bumpy, cart path only. Nothing noteworthy.driving range is really bad, dirty, the nasty mats you have to hit off leave crud on your clubs that's difficult to clean.
Redhawk Hills - wear running shoes
Off-season and dormant grass and they neglected to tell us that it was cart paths only. On the first hole, we drove out 90 degrees and the cart shut down and it took quite a while to crawl back to the path. Um, the grass is dead, what are you trying to protect? For a very hilly course, walking back and forth was very tiring and ridiculous. On many occasions, with all the undulations, we couldn't see our ball and couldn't gage distance which added time and frustration. The greens were in very sorry shape too. 5 bucks for about 25 range balls hitting off artificial turf. The speaker to announce tee times is obviously in need of replacement. Only one restroom, so be sure to bring an extra bladder. Only $39, but there are multiple other courses at or below.
In Shorts inFebruary!!??
This is the second time playing the Hills Course. The first time was in Oct 13. Due to early snow only the front 7 and 17 & 18 was open!!This time price was great to finally get to play all 18. It is February so that speaks to the conditions only being average. I had very little inter-action with staff as I was only in the club house less than 2 minutes. No starter at the first tee. but that could be due to the time of the year. I'm sure during the summer they have one. Pace was good, played in a little over 4 hours.
