About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Very slow play
2 1/2 hours to complete the front 9 and 5 groups on #10 (3 on the tee) so we played front 9 again (1'50"). A Thursday round of golf is supposed to be average to fast but a lot of folks living in the woods/swamps and taking upwards of 20 min/hole, crazy. As stated in previous reviews, tee boxes are in bad shape; greens are winter length or a little slow; by and large fairway not bad; sandtraps were rock hard. On the plus, great course, great layout, just have to keep the ball in the fairway in order to score. Did notice a couple of the greens have been reduced in size, interesting change.
Course condition has improved
The course conditions have improved quite a bit this year.
The manager and his wife are rude and not friendly.
I don’t see them much which is a good thing.
The rest of the staff is great.
Slow pace today
Normally pretty slow play here, but today was terrible. There were 2 fivesomes in front of our group and we waited 10 minutes at every box. Course was in ok shape and staff was courteous
Course was nice and well kept. Easy to lose balls as the course is woodsie!
Staff is very friendly and accommodating
Terrible Course
The tee boxes are in horrible condition. The rough is overgrown. Fairways barely have grass and the greens are filled with divot marks and are slow. Do not waste your money on Hells Point
Beat the rain
Had a 1206 tee time, but rain was forecast to start early afternoon. Called course and they allowed me to come immediately and got me out. Best day to play, no one was on the course and I played great and quick and beat the rain by mere minutes! Course was in decent shape for fall weather.
Value
Stuck behind multiple slow groups. Tee boxes weee in terrible condition, and the fairway is longer than most corses rough. But for $12 with a cart,, what you can expect I guess.
Not as Avertiized
Course was easy to find and the staff was very cordial. The layout was good and had some great holes.
Was told "the course was in very good shape and the greens were running true"!. The greens were mostly in good shape but very slow, didn't think they were cut recently. The Tees were very shaggy as well. The bunkers and general areas were not very well maintained and the cart paths were treacherous.
Would not recommend . The layout was very nice but unless they do some work to the course don't expect too much.
