Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Not bad this time of year
Greens were recently aerated. Tee boxes ok. Fairways ok. About what you expect for this time of year
I love this course. Most holes are away from any houses or streets so it's nice and quiet. Holes are challenging, but not ridiculously difficult. You can choose to play brave over smart and safe, and it won't bite you in the backside. Best Part 3 holes I have ever played. Favorite course in VA Beach by far!
Judge it on Your own
As a "local", H. Point has in my opinion received a lot of unwarranted poor reviews over the past couple of years. Sure it is not in the conditions of when it was voted one of the best new courses in the country, but that was many years ago. This course can be quite challenging if you can't find the fairway off the tee. If you are left or right - you are normally going to be in a swampy mess, but I have no issue with that. What I like about the course is the layout of a few of the holes are unlike any other in the area, which to me makes it more interesting and I don't feel like I'm playing the same type hole over and over. This course is also without homes within the course, so I like that as well. We had the friendly goats on our second hole which has always been fun to see. Yes this course can be wet at times when you don't expect it would be, but I will be back. Enjoy and hit it straight !
True greens .....not
The course layout is great but green are not true and very slow. Green condition are not up to what they use to be.
It was car path only
Other than that the course is a interesting challenge... will come back
Tempting
Great layout, play smart deceptive locations under all conditions.
Great Layout, but very wet!!
This is a great course but don't play after a big rain. Water standing everywhere!!
Good Layout
this course has a great layout but do not play this course if there has recently been a heavy rain because water gathers between holes and on the cart path and every other where you can think of. This course is literally in a swamp.
Never disappoints
Played here for the 4th time and must say I’ve loved it every time. For this time of year course is good shape. Staff is very friendly. Always will recommend
Nice course . . .
Nice course that winds through marshland. No houses on the course. Even though the course was lined by wetlands, there were ample fairways so that it did not feel like target golf. Bunkers define the holes very well. Great variety between holes, short and long, straight and dog legs right hland left. Greens were in good shape, which was nice because they are bent grass. Putted well. The bunkers were awesome. In terms of defining where to hit you are tee shot and where to not hit your approach shot. Luckily I did not go into any of them so at cannot speak to how they played.
Great round of golf
This is now my third time playing this course and it is my favorite for the price range in the Virginia Beach area. Relatively quiet day out on the course due to it being a little chilly. The course was in better shape than most this time of year. I’ve shot better each time I’ve came out as well and I’m really beginning to like this course. I will be back soon
Poor course management.
On a busy Sunday of a holiday weekend they sent foursomes out every 9 minutes vice normal 14 minutes and also allowed a single player to go out. Very poor course management by club pro and starter, even when we called after excessive delays they refused to admit mistakes and offer apology. I would not recommend this course.
Super Challenging course with a lot of character holes!!
Loved it and you got to keep the ball in play. Tree lined fairways with water holes too bordering the fairways. Has length but greens are fast and great to putt on. True to the hole with good movement and undulation.
