Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

Loved it
I really enjoyed playing this course. There are no houses and insane all kinds of wild life.
So good we played it 3 times!
We were visiting from Wisconsin and were looking for a course close to Sandbridge that was fun and affordable. HellsPoint was both, and the staff were so kind and helpful. If we return to the Virginia Beach area, we'd definitely play HellsPoint again.
Hells is on Point!
Can't beat the value of this classic Va Beach gem of a golf course. Greens are in very good shape (it is challenging to keep Penncross bent alive during the hot/humid summers especially with HOC 0.140"). Agronomy crew is providing more than the resources they are given - salute to them as I know many other golf course Superintendents would have walked away. Hard to believe the quality of the course for such a low price $8!!! Truly enjoyed the facility. Thank you.
Great layout
The course is coming back nicely. The greens were great, but a little slow wish they would move them lower. What a fun layout!
Challenging and beautiful.
Although the course was inundated with water from the recent storms, it was playable. Saw some wildlife (variety of birds and a turtle). Most bunkers were swimming pools, but this is not normal. The last time I played here, the course was in terrific shape. I highly recommend playing here.
Awesome course
This course in great condition. I truly enjoyed the time spent with friends and family.
Worst golf outing ever
When I showed up to Hells Point they just gave me my receipt and sent me on my way. When I went to get my cart I found out that I would not be able to play the back 9 because it was under water and that holes 2 and 3 I would only be able to play and drive the cart right down the middle of the fairway because they are mostly underwater. The guy that checked me in at the office didn't tell me anything about this and did not offer a rain check. This was by far the worst experience me and my father and law have had with Hells Point and with Golf Now.
Good course
This is a great course with a challenging layout and beautiful scenery. Greens were in good shape but the fairways have seen better days. Don't let that stop you from playing it though. I'll play there again for sure.
Overall well maintained course
The overall rating was fantastic. The course was challenging and overall well designed. Definitely a strategic course specifically the back nine. Nice staff will be playing here again.
Beautiful course creates a fun round!
I was drawn to play this course by the incredible value of the greens fee. When I actually arrived at the course, I was not disappointed. In the pro shop, the staff were friendly and helpful. Five dollars got me more than enough balls to warm-up on their range. Unusual, though, was the fact that they were "mats only" for the driving range with no obvious work being done to the range. Oh well.
The tee boxes are well-kept, as are the fairways. The greens are well kept, although the speed varies a bit from one to another. Fairways are mostly wide throughout the course, although there is slight variety in that as well. Don't get me started on the par threes--they're tough. They seem short, but beware the wind and bunker placements.
Overall, a great experience at the course!
I had a blast
I had the course to myself. It was in pretty darn good shape for March. It was fun and, with Golf-Now, a super value.
Fun course, good value.
This is a challenging course with lots of character. Usually in good condition and not too crowded. Good value especially with GolfNow discount.
Nice VB course
This course was pretty nice. It is tight and so you have to be accurate. If you aren't accurate with your driver you need to hit something you can hit straight or it will be a long day. The layout is nice and different. You have to pay attention to the signs to know how to get to each hole. Definitely would recommend. The golf now price was nice and even though it was busy the pace was still decent for a Sunday.
