Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
About
Nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, Indian Canyons Golf Resort offers two championship courses with stunning views. The two golf courses, North and South, have completely different layouts but they are both sheltered from the wind thanks to the surrounding mountains. The South Course is the shorter of the two, making it the more player-friendly course. That is not to say it is not a challenge though. The rolling fairways are framed by contoured mounding and four expansive lakes come into play on six holes. The par 5s are particularly memorable. There are also well over 1,300 palm trees throughout the golf course, which includes hundreds of Washingtonia filifera palms. These trees are native to the Agua Caliente Tribe and an important part of their history.

17th green, short par 4, layup short of the water before hitting over to a guarded green. Just an iron and a wedge, but what a beauty! Photo submitted by t781893493 on 05/01/2019

Good value
My wife and I enjoy playing here for a change of pace. Some of the tee boxes could use some help, but other than that the course is in good condition for the time of year. Greens ran true. Pace was excellent as a foursome we finished in about four hours. Interesting that they would not provide ice, but gave us bottles of water and had a beverage cart? We definitely will return.
Scenic course with good variety & early morning shade
Nestled in the canyon with a nice layout the course has enough to challenge most players without overwhelming high handicappers.
Great course for average players
Outstanding golf experience from beginning to end. Friendly greeting upon arrival and delightful staff assisting after we finished play.
It was the first time my buddy and I played this loop. We were impressed by the layout, maintenance and vistas. Only took three and a half hours for 18. There was an attentive lady working the beverage cart. Will we play there again? Next time we’re in Palm , you bet!
Fun course.
Really great staff. Very well maintained. Greens are fast and consistent throughout. Will for sure come again.
Nice course. Greens need a little TLC
Like this course great layout and views. The greens are a little beat up. Not horrible but could be better. I would play again
Great Golf in PS
Played this course before - first time back since COVID - staff was extremely helpful, accommodating and nice. Would definitely recommend to friends as well as return again.
IC South
Rode the Blacks (6560/71.1/123) in 2H, 40M as a single mid day on a GN "Hot Deal". 108, hazy and fairly calm.
The layout features mostly generous fairways with a decent amount of large water hazards to navigate over on select approach shots. One double green, and numerous greens have runoff areas mowed down like a links style course, while others have deep rough just off the green.
Bermuda tees were good in the areas they made the markers. Many had brown/dead spots that they were staying away from.
Bermuda fairways were lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough was semi lush and mostly mowed down, good POP rough.
Sand traps were decently maintained for COVID. Good quality fine sand the ones I was in.
Bermuda greens were firm and putted medium speed. The middle 95% of the greens were good, many of the outer edges had scalped/bare spots.
Good customer service, they got me out ahead of my tee time. Drink cart out making the rounds. No water available on the course and pro shop closed to the public, all check in done outside. All grass range closed today. Redesigned by Amy Alcott/Casey O'Callaghan in 2004, the South is shorter and a more picturesque layout that it's sister North course. This would be a challenging layout to walk, the hole 13-16 loop goes away from the rest of the course. Fun layout to play, recommended.
Wonderful course for the price
My first time there it was a beautiful course very green staff was very helpful and And friendly I will definitely be coming back next year
Place is dangerous
Twice while we were on the putting surface a ball landed from another group from who knows where. Saw a ball bounce off another’s golf cart. Place is a shooting gallery, shame because it’s a nice course just too many people crossing paths
Palm Springs Favorites
Indian Canyon is one our favorite golf courses in the Palm Springs area. Course is always in very good condition, well maintained. The staff is always friendly, helpful and courteous. Pace of play is good. Difficulty level is medium. Even if you play in the dry heat of 105 degrees it’s tolerable.
UPDATE to "One Miserable Round of Golf"
This is an IMPORTANT UPDATE to my previous review made on 9/1/2020 because I am not allowed to "edit" a previous review. We played on 8/19/2020 and the course conditions were bad because of cut grass in the fairways so deep we had to hunt for our tee shots too many times. Also, there were so many lawn mowers and blowers working it was difficult to have a conversation on the course. My problem was the guy in the pro shop would not offer a discounted re-play round and the course did not respond to my email.
UPDATE: The General Manager's representative contacted me by email (twice) and gave me a phone number so we could talk instead of email back and fourth. I may have deleted the first email thinking it was "spam". The GM's office confirmed the course conditions I described on the day of play. I was told of the reasons maintenance got so far behind and they all seemed true and reasonable to me. I was then told it was an "all hands on deck" type of maintenance day and our foursome just got stuck in-between all the equipment. The GM's office was very sincere and offered to make things right. I would play again anytime at Indian Canyons knowing management really cares about their guest and I want everyone to know that.
Always a good time
Early September and hot, clubhouse closed so no clothes shopping due to Covid, one course we always play and it didn’t disappoint, would recommend to anyone, actually was surprised how good of condition it was in, must play
Brilliant
Only the fussiest could take issue with the conditions here. Really top notch. Starter was lovely, and even came around mid round to orchestrate letting a twosome overtake our foursome, which I liked. Fairways and greens were both in great shape. Course is super forgiving and gettable for the average joe. I can’t wait to come back.
One Miserable Round of Golf
Course layout is straight forward. What you see is what you get. Staff was very friendly and helpful. What made our day miserable was the lawn mowers and high powered truck- mounted blowers. We had well over 100 combined years of golf in our foursome so we understand there must be course maintenance during the day. However, 15 holes of mowers and blowers (and on a couple holes there were 2 blowers) is just ridiculous. Mounds of grass from mowing thick enough to make you search for your ball in the middle of the fairway! Walking up and back to look for your ball filled your shoes full of grass clippings. There are no GPS units on the golf cars and not everyone had yardage finders so we had to share yardage verbally. It was so loud due to the power equipment you had to yell to give anyone yardage. Management was notified at the end of our round about the conditions. We asked for a discounted rate if we returned and were told "no". We sent the course an email about our experience and we never received a response.
