Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
About
Nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, Indian Canyons Golf Resort offers two championship courses with stunning views. The two golf courses, North and South, have completely different layouts but they are both sheltered from the wind thanks to the surrounding mountains. The South Course is the shorter of the two, making it the more player-friendly course. That is not to say it is not a challenge though. The rolling fairways are framed by contoured mounding and four expansive lakes come into play on six holes. The par 5s are particularly memorable. There are also well over 1,300 palm trees throughout the golf course, which includes hundreds of Washingtonia filifera palms. These trees are native to the Agua Caliente Tribe and an important part of their history.

Wonderful course for the price
My first time there it was a beautiful course very green staff was very helpful and And friendly I will definitely be coming back next year
Place is dangerous
Twice while we were on the putting surface a ball landed from another group from who knows where. Saw a ball bounce off another’s golf cart. Place is a shooting gallery, shame because it’s a nice course just too many people crossing paths
Palm Springs Favorites
Indian Canyon is one our favorite golf courses in the Palm Springs area. Course is always in very good condition, well maintained. The staff is always friendly, helpful and courteous. Pace of play is good. Difficulty level is medium. Even if you play in the dry heat of 105 degrees it’s tolerable.
UPDATE to "One Miserable Round of Golf"
This is an IMPORTANT UPDATE to my previous review made on 9/1/2020 because I am not allowed to "edit" a previous review. We played on 8/19/2020 and the course conditions were bad because of cut grass in the fairways so deep we had to hunt for our tee shots too many times. Also, there were so many lawn mowers and blowers working it was difficult to have a conversation on the course. My problem was the guy in the pro shop would not offer a discounted re-play round and the course did not respond to my email.
UPDATE: The General Manager's representative contacted me by email (twice) and gave me a phone number so we could talk instead of email back and fourth. I may have deleted the first email thinking it was "spam". The GM's office confirmed the course conditions I described on the day of play. I was told of the reasons maintenance got so far behind and they all seemed true and reasonable to me. I was then told it was an "all hands on deck" type of maintenance day and our foursome just got stuck in-between all the equipment. The GM's office was very sincere and offered to make things right. I would play again anytime at Indian Canyons knowing management really cares about their guest and I want everyone to know that.
Always a good time
Early September and hot, clubhouse closed so no clothes shopping due to Covid, one course we always play and it didn’t disappoint, would recommend to anyone, actually was surprised how good of condition it was in, must play
Brilliant
Only the fussiest could take issue with the conditions here. Really top notch. Starter was lovely, and even came around mid round to orchestrate letting a twosome overtake our foursome, which I liked. Fairways and greens were both in great shape. Course is super forgiving and gettable for the average joe. I can’t wait to come back.
One Miserable Round of Golf
Course layout is straight forward. What you see is what you get. Staff was very friendly and helpful. What made our day miserable was the lawn mowers and high powered truck- mounted blowers. We had well over 100 combined years of golf in our foursome so we understand there must be course maintenance during the day. However, 15 holes of mowers and blowers (and on a couple holes there were 2 blowers) is just ridiculous. Mounds of grass from mowing thick enough to make you search for your ball in the middle of the fairway! Walking up and back to look for your ball filled your shoes full of grass clippings. There are no GPS units on the golf cars and not everyone had yardage finders so we had to share yardage verbally. It was so loud due to the power equipment you had to yell to give anyone yardage. Management was notified at the end of our round about the conditions. We asked for a discounted rate if we returned and were told "no". We sent the course an email about our experience and we never received a response.
Great Value
Course is in great shape. There’s some dry spots which is to be expected for the desert. Cool design, challenging but not too difficult. A lot of sand, the average golfer is going to spend a lot of time on the beach. We were expecting the starter to be mean after reading previous comments, not the case at all. Everyone was extremely friendly and the starter was a gentleman was very friendly. Would highly recommend.
Friendly course with professional feel
Beautiful layout. Greens roll true but not too difficult. $50 in summer is a great value. COVID-19 won’t let course provide ice which is beyond stupid, but not the courses fault. I’ll definitely be back.
Grumpy starter
The course is nice the only negative is the grumpy old starter
If you do not like people don’t have a job where you talk to them.
He starts you off tense. He very Curt.
Nice course but there Re better in the area and less expensive. No need to put up with a grumpy guy who hates the world
Early Start makes the difference
3rd time playing here but first time at an early tee time. Given the 110 degree heat and humidity this weekend it was great to get out before 7am. Groups of 2 and 4 keep pace moving prettty well - had to wait on a few holes but got done before the big heat! Becoming one of our favorite courses in the desert - really good shape for this time of year (mid August).
Beautiful course
Hot & Humid.
Pace of play was good through the front 9, but slowed considerably on the back 9.
Greens keepers have omen toe fringes way too short, resulting in a dirt ring around almost every green.
Good Conditions, starter a little bitter
2nd time playing the south course. Pretty good conditions for the middle of summer. Layout is fair for all abilities. Price was fair for middle of summer AM weekend round.
I appreciate the course COVID restrictions, just happy to play. Although, when my colleague lowered his face covering to take a drink of his beverage while receiving instructions from the elderly starter on the 1st hole, he was scolded. Unfortunately, it was the overly aggressive tone that surprised our group. Just beware, CA Governor Newsom's mandate is strictly enforced.
Other than that, it was an enjoyable 1st round to start our day.
Back again!
Beautiful course! Well maintained and a challenge to play ! I’d give it a A!
