Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Course conditions are pitiful
Have played this course a few times. Course looks amazing through mid June each year. Then it turns into a dog track by summer and is almost unplayable. Dirt tee boxes, crab grass all over greens. It’s a shame this course has potential but no jimvestment in a reasonable groundskeeper. Also not worth 100$+ dollars
It could be great, BUT . . .
Great layout -- it could be a 'go-to' course in the DC area (like Potomac Shores) but the conditioning is not good. The bunkers are a disaster. Some fairways are pretty bad. Greens were pretty good. The driving range is an embarrassment but they should first spend the money on fixing the condition of the course.
Worth the drive
Nice greens
Fairways a little sparse
Bunkers washed out
Starter and marshals very helpful and friendly
No beverage cart
Nice layout
Driving range undersized and motley collections off range. balls
getting better & better
This is our 2nd time playing this course this year, and all I can say is ‘the course is much improved’ .. we now can say that the Old Hickory is making a comeback and it’s better than ever. Keep up the Good Work!
Keep at it
Played many times. Love the layout. Course has had difficulties over past few years with condition. They begun some steps toward improvement last fall. Spring time fairways were looking good. Now that summer has arrived, hopefully they will keep up the good work.
Not quite there but getting closer
Played here twice in 10 days, once before MDW and once after. Greens were near perfect before MDW but understandably a little beaten after. Fairways need more grass as they are far from lush but they're passable. Rough is also a little patchy and suffers from some bald spots. Layout is fantastic. Playing from different tees gives the course whole new looks and increases replay-ability. The 18th is one of the hardest holes I've ever played. Excited to come back as conditions continue to improve.
Course shape
Course conditions have greatly improved. Still a few burn zones but worth the price again.
Getting Better
Played a year or so back. I was shocked at the conditions. Well that is over my friends, I live near here and will be coming back soon. I love this track, and the conditions are almost as good as the layout, and I assume it will only get better. Feel free to thank me later
It’s making a comeback Real Noce!
Folks, I know the course have been a disappointment for the past few years (I can attest that!), but it’s making a comeback! ..I played the other day with a buddy of mine and both of us were really impressed with the improvement ..Especially the Greens! (Fantastic!) ..I know they still have lot more work to be done but give it some time because the directions they’re heading it will
be a better and newer Old Hickory.. keep up the good work!
Horrible, Stay Away... Just Kidding. Getting better every day
I played here for the first time last Fall and the course was ROUGH. They wee, apparently without a head greenskeeper for a while and it showed. I am now playing it regularly and they have a new Greenskeeper his is working hard to get the course back in shape, and it shows. The fairways and the areas around the greens are filling in.
The greens have always, in my time playing the course) have always been in good shape. They are challenging and pin placements add difficulty to some of the otherwise "scorable" shorter PAR 4s.
I am looking forward to continuing to play this track and witness its revitalization.
Great layout
I love the layout of Old Hickory. Lots of doglegs with elevation changes and wide fairways. The course is long if you don’t swallow your pride and play the correct tees. I’ve stayed away from this course for about 1 1/2 years because of reviews mentioning decline in maintenance (poor conditions. There still are some fairways that have bare spots, but you can see the improvements in maintenance. I played right after a tounament. Greens were in good shape and running true, however the tournament players weren’t interested in fixing ball marks. Overall, a good experience. I’ll be back!
