Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

John P
Winter round course was in very
good condition green fairways firm greens—club house staff always friendly and aware of course updates—
challenging course pace of play four hour range-highly recommend
Great Round on a Winter’s Day
Had a nice quiet round with very few people out yesterday-gave me a chance to get out by myself and work on a few things. This course is pretty challenging with a lot of rolling turf, water and tree hazard areas and dog legs. You have to make good decisions as you proceed down the par 4’s and 5’s. The guy at check in was very pleasant and the course was in good shape with tight greens. Am looking forward to warmer weather but it sure is nice out there now with no stinging and biting insects.
Great layout and fun track
Some quirky things with the way some of the holes are set into a housing community, so you’ll need to ride in a cart. But the design is great and challenging and the course is usually in fine shape. Recommended.
fun times
I had a blast playing. the staff was extremely friendly. the course was in great condition overall.
Love the course
Course in good shape considering autumn and warm weather. Will recommend to other players and will play again
With a little more care...
Course seems to be typically wet, hence "cart-pathy/only rough" all the time. Because of the many trees, many leaves on the course, making it difficult to see/find balls in rough and fairways. Under all the debris, the greens are actually pretty good and fast (putt), holds and spins well (shots into)...if players would fix their ball marks (and an extra one too) and maintenance team use their blowers (am & pm). No rakes in the bunkers, they could use a maintenance run too. Would pay around/under $40 but not more than, considering pace is always an issue here.
Very slow.
We did get a late tee time with plenty of time to finish 18. There was three groups in front and it took almost three hours to get through the first nine holes. We didn’t see a Marshall out there moving groups along. The staff was great and gave us a voucher for the 9 holes we didn’t finish.
Terrible
If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The pace of play is unacceptably slow. It took 3 hours to finish 9 holes, and was only able to play 15 holes, in FIVE HOURS! The Marshall was asking if it was slow behind us. That doesn’t even make any sense! The club house is nice, but the fairways are beat up. The bunkers should be GUR. I won’t be playing this course again, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It’s a shame because the layout is pretty good.
Do not recommend
Poor conditions, poor tee sheet management, would not recommend ever playing this course. They pack the tee times 7minutes apart and do not Marshall slow play. Hardly a good patch of grass from tee box to green.
Challenging course
Course had just been aerated but in good shape. Greens generally very good but tee boxes need work
Upscale?
It seems like most of the course is in some form of renovation. Some bunkers filled in covered in weeds others grown in under repair. Fairways have so many different grasses growing unevenly. Cheaper courses in the area are in far better shape.
Great Course
Overall a great course. Had some issues with fairways with mud and either work vehicles or carts driving on the fairways after the amount of rain the course had the days prior. Staff was very friendly and amenities were decent. Overall great experience.
Great Course
Old Hickory has definitely improved over the last year. The course conditions were night and day difference from earlier in the year. Cart path only on a lot of holes but given the improvements in the fairways and greens, I can see why. Good round and course for the GolfNow price.
Course - VERY BAD CONDITION
Better drainage is needed and this course is in need of a very good superintendent that can get this course in optimal condition.
