Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Long Poke at Old Hick
If you haven't play here it is worth the time. This is a really nice course and layout that can offer couple of challenges especially if it is windy. You will enjoy teeing off from the first tee box to an up hill green. Make sure to keep your head down or you will end up in the water!.
The greens are usually pretty fast after the are formed and rolled after aeration. Sometimes tough pin placements will challenge you but don't be a sucker.
The staff here are really great and very friendly. After working in DC all week it is nice to be around good people or shall I say happy and friendly people. The starters love to talk smack and will have you smiling before you tee off.
good luck and enjoy the course.
Old hickory
Course was in excellent condition & the greens had a great pace to them. The only issue was some of the greens were not completely filled in yet from the last aeration. Being the 1st time playing this course I should have got a course book, because knowledge of where to place the ball could have made a difference in my scoring. Will play this course again.
Not bad
Fantastic views really a great layout the fairways looks like crabgrass it's making it its way in.
The greens looks like they were air rated a while back and haven't completely closed yet.
I'm sure when the season gets started it will be in great shape
Always a solid experience
Old Hickory has always been a predictably fine experience. Fast greens, great friendly staff, great course conditions. The course itself is interesting, appropriately challenging, and rewarding if you do your part. There are no hidden, blind shots, and it's hard to lose a ball if struck reasonably well.
Try to get a discount, or use Golf Now to take something off of the $90 green fee. Even though it's worth the retail fee, it's still a bit high for retirees and such.
Overall, a great experience.
Not worth playing
We played this course last year and the conditions have really gone down hill. This course does not live up to the Raspberry Golf Trail standards. They obviously put profits over quality here. Most tee boxes looked like someone dug it up with a backhoe. Fairways and greens were spotty at best. To make matter worse they put an outing our right in the middle of our round. That turned into a 5hr and 45min grueling round. When I spoke to the staff after the round they could not care less.
Don't waste your money here. Travel 30mins south and play Augustine where you will have an enjoyable round and be treated like they want you come back.
No pride in their course.
The course was in awesome condition tee to green. The greens are still punched and returning, so they're in bad shape. However, when we approached the 4th tee box we found a shattered liquor bottle on the tee box with a note from the group before that there was a drunken group slowing everything down. When we called the pro shop to let them know people were literally vandalizing the course and just acting like belligerent idiots. We were told by Troy in the pro shop they're a part of a paying tournament and nothing will be done. It's a shame because this is supposed to be an upscale course, but the employees take no pride in their course.
Course nice/greens terrible
aerated greens were inconsistent leading to impossible putting conditions.
I was very disappointed the greens were punched and almost impossible to putt. Was told via phone that they were fully healed and "pristine". Drove an hour and a half because of that info.
Needs better maintenance.
Greens aerated change the whole experience. I'd appreciate a warning before booking. (I checked the course website and it did not say anything either).
Some Fairways were rough.
I would go back in a few weeks to see if it has improved, because I use to like that course even during the winter. Maintenance has been poor this year.
Great course. Tee boxes for seniors is a bit long. Course should add senior tee box between white and red tees
First time for me
I woke up this past Saturday thinking we were in for weather, so I didn't make a tee time anywhere. Logged on to golfnow and started looking after a quick check on weather, I had a window for a morning round with a possible weather (rain) situation.
As I walked into the pro shop, the large wood doors made me feel like I was playing at a country club. The gentleman behind the counter said good morning before I could even look up to realize my surroundings. He was very alert and attentive to any questions I had, smiling the entire time. First impression, great.
As I made my way to practice area, I realized that though it was in the 70's in February there wasn't many on the course. This got me excited, as I don't like playing on top of group in front, or with a group close behind. I linked up with two guys my age along with an older gentleman who was joing us for 9.
The course conditions were excellent, I couldn't find anything negative about the course for this time of year. I was pleased with my play and played the par 3's even par. I didnt dislike any holes, playing them all with little knowledge of what was ahead, I had some fun.
Will be back, very soon!
Best of NOVA
Friendly and courteous staff, course is in great shape, thanks to the grounds staff. My favorite course.
Winter Play
Great course greens were great for the winter and still smooth. The starter was great at getting people out in time and managing players. Hard to control shots in wind.
Always good to play at Old Hickory
Few players, so our twosome made good time, even though it was cart path only.
Greens were slower than expected.
A little snowman in one fairway was an added attraction.
