Worst Golf Experience Ever!

Waited forever for tee time. Grass was worn and unkempt on tees, needed watering. Service at lunch was awful and food was sub-par! Trump golf courses always disappoint.

amazing views, good course

we played this course on the last weekend of their big maintenance window (removed the waterfall, other typical maintenance). as a result, hole 1 had a temp green, and hole 2 also played significantly shorter than listed. aside from these, the course was in good shape.

if having a view is important to you, then this course will not disappoint. every hole has killer scenery and you will be inspired by the beauty.

from a golf perspective, i would say the course is above average, but not one of my favorites. the routing of the course is a disaster. got lost between holes several times. that created some frustration. the holes themselves were generally pretty, but very few of them struck me as being particularly unique.

with the construction, we were able to play for a reduced price. given the quality of the facilities and the course i think we got a good deal, but i'm not sure i would have felt the same paying full price. i think there are better courses in the area for less money (TPC Valencia, Angeles National, etc)

trump national fails to deliver

If you think USD160 is good value for a course that is undergoing changes to 2 holes and has fairways in very poor condition then you have too much money to burn. Yes there is a drought in California which makes operating a golf course hard but no-one should be having to pay such big dollars for such a poor experience. And that was the afternoon rate. They can't even be bothered adjusting the scorecard so that the first hole is par 3 instead of par 4.

No marshalling

Pretty course. The Marshall complained to me that the group in front of us isn't faster. Seriously.

You'll have a great day

My golf buddies and I play here about 8 times a year. It is the best high end course in the L.A./Orange County area by far. And, if one of your foursome is a VIP member, everyone in your foursome plays for $160, no matter the time of day.
While none of the holes are right up against the ocean, you have scenic ocean views from every hole.
All of the staff, from the time you pull up to the free valet parking until the time you return the cart after the 18th, are extremely friendly and helpful. Special kudos to Manny, the starter, who is an extremely friendly gentleman.
Pace of play is usually good--almost never feel held up nor rushed.
Course conditions are usually very good with the exception being the bunkers which could use a little more sand. The greens are in excellent condition, and usually fairly fast.
Go for hitting the ball straight over distance as the fairways are narrow and there is brush on either side. As a lot of holes parallel another hole, if you hit it far enough left or right, you can be OK and hit from the adjacent fairway. (Right Todd?)
Overall, I think this course tops the other high end ocean courses such as Monarch Beach and Pelican Hill.

Premium Course, Premium Cost

One of the most amazing golf courses in the world. Just knowing that the place is called "Trump National" named after Donald Trump of course, you should expect nothing but the best here! The course is very challenging and is not for the faint of heart. Key part of the course is getting your ball in the fairway. Good luck finding your ball if your in the rough as the grass and shrubs are at least 2-3 feet tall! Green speeds are fair, but very challenging undulations. At every hole you have a glance at the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The staff is friendly and courteous. If you are a golf fan or want a serious challenge, this is the place to be!

Great Public Course in LA

This is a very flash Donald Trump golf course. This course has ocean views and loud, large, fake, and waterfalls. This is a well designed golf course with many holes with greenside water, narrow fairways, and a couple 220+ par 3's.

Challenging Course + Great Views but So-So Value

The subject says it all. For $280, I'm expecting pristine fairways (many rough spots/dirt/dying grass) to match the excellent greens, views and facilities. For that price point, you shouldn't have a single negative thing to say other than that course kicked my butt. A few of the tee boxes were even pretty beat up.

Just not delivering the premium experience right now.

Very difficult but so much fun

Such a difficult, hard, tough golf course, if you can't hit it straight or long enough. The rough is high and dead penalizing, you will only just advance it from there and not be able to take a full swipe to the green 90% of the time. The location is amazing, it's such a beautiful setting for a golf course. I think everybody's glad that the Donald was able to take over the place and save it for all of us to be able to play it. It is a Pete Dye re-design, so it is Dye-abolical on some holes. Just enjoy the wackiness, don't try to play too serious, enjoy the views and the location. On a clear day you can see for ever and it will make your round that much more enjoyable, not care about the score so much. You will want to come back and will play better the next times, as you will have to know the course on some holes to know where to direct the shot. On this day the greens were fast but slightly bumpy. It's well worth the money if you can get on for a discount rate. The driving range was not good off the grass, it was already just mud patches, barely any grass. The wind makes the course that much harder.

A beauty and a beast

How many golfers really care how many balls they lose and the high score they shoot at Trump National? IT'S TRUMP NATIONAL. Most people are just happy to get the chance to experience such a dramatic course where the views of the ocean never stop. Trump's over-the-top waterfalls don't bother me much, either. I'm just not a fan of the first one because it makes the first iron shot of the day so difficult. Not only do you have to worry about the pond short of the first green, but blading the approach long into the cascading mist ends up wet as well. There are a few other holes where I would suggest tweaking if I were to nitpick, but overall, the whole experience feels well worth the ego slashing and money spent. Trump National is no Pebble Beach, as The Donald has suggested. As coastal courses go, though, it's still one of America's best.
